Dragon fix kit disaster

Got a fuel controller ordered for it a new cylinder and pistons. I new better not putting a controller on it but I was told it was ok without it I even asked what factory map to run the last two I installed ( couple years back) they said to run 09 pre update map I asked if I should run that map and was told the ten map was fine (it was an updated 10 map ) from Polaris gonna install the 09 map and controller this time

compression thus increasing power.
Fueling stock engines or mild modification: Our recommendation with the “FIX KIT” is to remove any aftermarket fuel controllers and have it re-flashed to the original ’08 flash.
Fueling modified engines: If you choose to add any other aftermarket products (IE: cans, pipes, power commanders) you will need to contact the aftermarket company you purchased the product from for their recommended flash for their products. The “FIX KIT” is compatible with most aftermarket products as it does not change the functionality of the engine much from original equipment. Proper tuning checks should be made by a competent engine tuner.

Well not trying to be rude but that's what happens when you buy the knockoff Fix it kit.

But there could be other issue's other then that as well.

I know a lot of people that have bought that same kit and had almost the same thing happen.

Call the manufacture and see what they have to say about it.

Pro X is not a high end piston but there not a bad cast piston, How many fix it kits have you seen fail with this piston? If it is seizing it is a clearance, lubrication or heat problem. .006 on a cast piston is loose. If you are running to lean the fist sign of damage is the top edge of the piston next to the exhaust port will start to round off.

Tinker did you measure .006 at the top of the piston or the bottom of it?

Any chance it sucked in some snow?

I have seen and heard of at least 12 of those kits installed with new cylinders with the proper clearances. They have also been reflashed back to the 08 mapping stock exhaust heat soaked 3 to 4 time and most of them only lasted 20 miles or less.

They have redone there motor's with the MTNTK Fix Kit with new cylinders
check for proper clearances heat soaked 3 to 4 times.

They know have over 600 miles on them and not a lick of trouble.

They also have added SLP exhaust and PA heads to them as well.

And there Still running strong.

Duck, this gentlemen is/was NOT running the MTNTK Fix Kit.

I highly endorse MTNTK's products but in the case of the real fix kit and the dragon, I still recommend a fuel controller for optimal runnability.

I ran mine without a controller for a bit, but since then ive bought a power commander for when I run without the turbo kit. Just want to be safe, i installed my fix kit because of a blown top end ---> an expense i dont overly care to have to pay again (voltage regulator failed). Ive heard a lot of suggestions to get a subscription to dynotech research, so ill probably look into that as well.

I installed the fix kit with the Wiseco pistons and had the cylinders re-nikasiled and it is running strong with no problems.
The break-in was with petroleum based oil for the first full tank and 4 warm ups before I went west.
Talked to PMS about the 08 flash and they said it would just make it run a little better at high altitude. That to me means it will lean it out a little more for the attitude.
I still have the updated 09 flash and no controller.

Ok I just wanna clear the air here on this subject, I wasn't trying to bash on a product or or (fix kit) I was just ranting. There were probably a few things that could have contribute to the failure we didn't replace the fuel filter we didn't remap the computer to the 08-09 map (like I had done on previous fix kit installations) i have installed mtn tech kits sno x kits in different dragons that are still running fine today, the vendor gave me a brand new set of pistons at no cost, this time we will change all the possible contributors to a lean cond aswell as computer mapping we are also gonna install a fuel controller to fine tune the mapping, all the fix kits are good some use cast pistons and some use forged pistons but they all work well and do what they are designed to do, every sled is different the fuel you buy these days is different not every dragon out there will run or respond every condition the same all you can do is the best you can to try and make them right ( no thanks to polaris for this poorly designed engine) in my opinion is due to he EPA regulations squeezing down on them to make them cleaner burning engine which takes away from power and reliability of this engine, like I said before I was not trying to bash I was wanting to put it out there so guys will hopefully check all things associated to lean condition burn downs so this don't happen to them

Fix kit problems

I just had a very similar thing happen too. I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong. I Installed fix kit in 2010 dragon as a precaution and was very meticulous about the install. I installed the MTNTK kit and believe they offer a time tested and superior kit. Mag side piston seized up after about 10 miles and was very cautious about warm up and break in.

The best thing I can say is to make sure to replace the fuel filter and have the earlier 08-09 pre update map installed. the sleds I did this on seemed to work fine this one we did things different figuring it was going to be ok but not as we had expected. a fuel controller is the next best thing add fuel to them. That's proof that all fix kits can burn down it's not just one brand like some believe.

Fix Kit

Just curious on your thoughts about the www.rebuiltsnowmobileengines.com kit vs. the mtntk kit. I see that both offer the weisco pistons but rse.com kit has a aluminum spacer vs. steel. I thought steel and aluminum are not a good combination due to galvanic corrosion and other various properties? I think I'm going to try the rse.com kit.

tinker did you mix the first tank of gas with oil? You never mentioned that.
