Dragon belts??

I have a 07 dragon with 800 miles ran all last year on a 3211115 belt and no problems. Rode yesterday in some wet, heavy, and deep snow (18") and i am sure it was getting warm (had her held open most of the day just to go anywhere). Anyhow got stuck, got it dug out and one guy pulling on front ski and went to pull out of hole and smoked the belt. My question is i have a 3211080 i had as a spare, is it worth it to get the 3211115 for my next spare or just get the cheap 3211080 again. I can't beleive how much the 3211115's are. What's your thoughts. I will be puttin slp's vents on the clutch side this week to prevent this from happening again.
 
the 3211115 was polaris's fix for the 900 belt eating problem, and it worked so good that they started throwing it on most of the new sleds, i have a 900 and run the 080 belt and dont have any problems, ive heard of lots of guys running the 080 belt on the dragon with 0 issues, for the price diff i would run the 080, maybe it will only last 3/4 as long but you could buy 2 with the money you save . just my .02
 
I talked to the guys at Extreme Perf. and according to them, they couldn't find any difference in HP or temps using the 080 belt.
That is the belt I bought as my back up. When I smoke the expensive belt I will be running the 080 belts.
 
Thanks for the quick replies, i agree i think i will run the 080, can damn near buy two for the price of one 115. Anybody know what retail is for the two belts and a good place to get them for a reasonable price? Are the new 800's gonna run the 115 as well?? Thanks again.
 
The 080 belt works just fine but the 080 belts are known for blowing apart when they go. If it does it may take out a few other things as well so it can become less cheap. I have not seen any 115 belt blow up yet but you never know.
 
Here are my thoughts on the belts after looking into them a lot.

The Dragons dont need the extra durability and abuse resistance of the 3211115 belts.

The 115 belts are harder on the clutch sheaves..

I would run the 3211080 belt on the sled and keep a 3211115 belt as a backup.

The 080 compound is friendler to the clutches

If something goes wrong, like hitting a tree or something else and your engine gets out of alignment and blows the 080 belt, the 115 belt will be a good go to as it will tollerate the abuse of problem drivelines much better than the 080 belt.

I, like fullmonte will be running the Carlisle XS809 belt on my dragon. I don't know if it is a harder compound belt than the 1080 Polaris belt, but have heard good things from those that run them and they actually have a 1 year warrentee. I paid about $85.00 a piece for mine.
 
Ok , so this raises the question. I have a vague understanding, but what is the "Correct" way to break in a belt??? This obviously plays a roll on life of the belt...
 
1080's is what I run. I do have the 115 as a spare but I would be hard pressed to buy the 115 at the price it's at. Just plain stupid!

BTW, I can't believe you pulled on the ski tip, you are supposed to pull on the bumper only, then rip it off and go get a TCP bumper! :p
 
I can't be sure, but I believe break in on a new belt is about 30 miles of not so hard riding.
I'm not sure of the compound on the XS belts either. Talking to the rep, they are a close tolerance very strong belt. They are made to dissipate heat faster.
I ran one for just a bit on my 03 800 last year and the belt grabs like crazy. Apparently, this belt transfers so much more power, that the Arctic Cats had to be reclutched. I don't remember specifics or which sled, but the rep stated they dropped like 600rpm just by switching to the XS belt.
 
honestly never tried the 080 ,but did get 2700 miles on a 115, one small vent 07
dragon, machine worked well and never had the belt dust that others had running
080, clutch sheaves show no wear either, never heard any bad about 080 either,
but dust and when it blows it really comes apart! will be running them on 800 this
year, will let you know.
 
drive belt?

My #3211115 polaris belt has a thread starting to seperate on the side of the belt. What do you think? Should I cut it off and melt the end and run it? Or run my spare #3211080? Polaris want $170 cd for this belt. Has anybody tried the carlisle ultimax xs - xs809 belts? They are only $110. I only have about 300 miles on my 800 dragon, so I did not like seeing the belt shot already.

Part #xs-809 SLEDPARTS.COM I just ordered 2 of the xs-809 today.They cross reference with the 1115 of polaris.$79 a piece for the XS-809..compared to $180 for the polaris 1115! I was using the 080 with no problems.Have an '07 600 HO RMK 155.
 
I really didn't take note but I would be willing to guess that those who are happy with the 080 are riding the flatlands and trail systems out East. When riding in cold temps with minimal belt load they seem to work just fine. I have known a few who are happy with it mountain riding out west, but these are mostly people who pull a hill once and then BullSh!t the rest of the day. Most everyone I know who has made the switch to the 115 and actually broke it in properly, have found it is more than worth the price. I have been known to go through 10 or 12 080's in a season. This season I put 1,500 miles on a 115 before failure. It may cost twice as much but if it lasts 8 or 10 times as long, it's the cheapest belt on the market. I've also tried the Ultimax XS, you'll need to recalibrate your clutching, buy yourself a new bellypan, footrest and clutch cover within a few rides.

Gates has one, 44x4640, works great and it's about $60 iirc. As long as your clutches are aligned and kept in good shape, you shoudln't have a problem.
