dragon 800 exhaust problem

im new to the site and im hopeing someone can help me out here. I have a 09 dragon 800 sp, when i bought it it had a slp can on it, i tried putting a mbrp can on it and when ever i was track standing or hill climbing it sounded like it would hit a rev limiter at 7200 rpms and sometimes the rpms would varry, mbrp sent me 3 diff cans thinking they were defective and the same thing happend, does anyone have any ideas to why this would happen with the mbrp and not slp?????

Wow you should not hit the rev limiter tell 8400, or there abouts. What weights do you have in your clutch? But with a can You should not need to change your weights. Maybe a slight map change. Have you use an SLP can on it also? something is off, trying to talk my self through it? Have you used the max rpm setting to see exactly where you top out at? Have you tryed putting the stock can back on and see where you are at then?
Just some Ideas.
I never have had any luck with mbrp on a polaris, SLP seems to be a little better tuned for Polaris.

yes i no very weird, clutches are stock i beleive, and i dont have stock exhaust it came with the slp and my max rpm are from 74 to 82 and i can hold it wide open all day long, but with the mbrp it hit what sounded like a rev limiter anywhere from 7000 to 7000, it varried everytime

and yes i no your prob thinking why dont you just stick withthe slp, well id like to get a slp pipe and i dont wanna have the same prob, something is funny i just gotta find the prob

I have the same sled with the slp pipe and can with no issues at all. what is strange is the range your experiancing this, that is a long way from the rev limiter. What elevation was the sled set up for when you bought it, and what elevation are you riding it at now?

elevation is the same, and like i said it runs strong with the slp can on it, but something has to be messed up if it does it with the mbrp, unless the maping is that diff

wow i have run a HPS can for 2 years now and not one lick of trouble. I just installed the full slp exhaust but running a hps can on mine and run it acrossed the grass a couple times and i am hitting 8400 + at 4500 feet and not one miss.

So if you reinstall the slp can you can hit 8200 rpm all day not problems.

Each can has a slightly different airflow. If you change the airflow of the exhaust, you change the amount of fuel needed. If you have a pc-5 add a little bit of fuel to the top and see if the problem goes away. Dragons are very sensitive to detionation.

thats the other weird part no lights flashing nothing, just the sound of a rev limiter and if you held it you could power through it and then it would hit again, does that sound like a fuel prob?

If your ecm has the original 09 flash you won't get a light for detionation. If you have any one of the newer flashes (2010 flash and up I think) you will get a light flashing for detionation .

i bought it last fall and it had the top end rebuilt with the latest reflash but im not possitive if it was the 2010, but i just took my power vavles out and the spring in the valve on the cain case side was broke, and i shined a flash light down the holes and the pistons look fine, but the weird part about this is that when i had the problem thats the first thing i checked on the trail and the springs were fine, so do you think maybe it was just a weak spring and took a while to go?

Put new exhaust springs in for your elevation and go try run the machine. That problem should have shown up on both cans, but can have the same symtoms you described.
