Dr. question..........

Was running the dog tonight.
Went to a hard sprint.
Something about halfway up my right thigh felt like it "popped".
Had to go home in limp mode.
Now hurts from knee up to hip, but particularly where injury originated.
I'm afraid I'm gonna have to have a drink to take the edge off. Ha ha, not really joking though.
Bending knee intensifies the pain.
I can't find a position to relieve the pain.

Any thoughts?

Go to the doctor or urgent care facility

You are scaring me with talk like that brother!

I'm wanting someone to chime in & say it'll pass in a couple days!

I am the 1st to admit that I have a low pain threshold with this stuff, so I try to "man up", but poopy crap it hurts.

For me it would probably pass in a couple days. But your getting up there in age so it'll probably pass in a couple weeks :face-icon-small-win

Lotta truth there.
This late 40's bull$hit is a kick in the balls.:face-icon-small-fro

Been upping the intensity over the past few weeks preparing for a sledding trip in less than 2 weeks. Now this will lay me up enough to lose what I've accomplished.

BTW I have that drink in hand, but it may take a few!:face-icon-small-win

This may make no sense, but seems like a tendon slipped over bone or muscle?

drink up, hell I'll drink some for ya(disclaimer- bout 4-5 shots of shine and couple beers into it when decided to reply to this) but anywho you could do what i watched my buddy do a month or so ago while building his shop. whilest sheeting the roof i watched him shoot a 1.5" staple straight into his thigh. at the time was very hard not to laugh, but think it would hold a tenden in place quite nice. he's a skinny bastage so dunno how the hell he missed the bone, but ya thered an idea. :face-icon-small-win:usa2:

Alcohol starting to work now.

Still hurts, just don't care as much.

Beware of not so smart posts. Dumber than normal even.

Yeah...... Sooner it is checked out the better. Ibuprofen and ice on and off every 15min. If you can stand on it then it is less likely bone....an xray would be good....I'd have to do an exam to know for sure but with you drinking heavily and the "drop your pants deal" that goes with an exam that could end up being rather uncomfortable....:face-icon-small-blu

No matter how much I drink, I ain't gonna be swingin that way.

Really though, it can't be bone.
As I said before, I am a bit of a puss as far as pain threshold for this kind of thing go, and I can limp around on it.
I fact I'm home alone so I had to go down basement to feed the dog.
There's no way I could do that with broken bone.
And how could one break a femur simply by running?
Seriously, I know it is not that.

Just wondering what the other possibilities are.
Pulled something?
Regardless of the drinking, I think the pain is better already.

semi-expert in running injuries....being a distance runner for many years....so, is injury on outside of leg ?...if so, could be the IT band, a long ligament from knee to hip...common injury when suddenly increasing workout intensity.....best approach is to ice it for a day or two....quart size zip-lock with ice and just a little water, ibuprophen to help inflamation...should respond in 3-4 days...if pain increases, probably need to see physical therapist or doc if you have the insurance....if you start to get better, just walk, don't overdo...light stretching by sitting on floor, put foot of injured side on the outside of the other knee and pull injured knee gently towards injured leg foot....the IT band will get tight, but don't cause pain, because it will cause it to tighten up again.....and if you're that old, you should be a rocking chair anyway...:face-icon-small-hap

Advil. Hot, cold. Could be a pinched nerve I did something real similar. I had been driving/ flying a whole bunch then went to the gym and about ate it on the tread mill. Pop and massive pain that lasted a couple days. Then just stopped.

Tape it up an git back in there!! Hell, my nephews 4 year old boy got a little compound bow for Christmas, he was runnin around the house naked the other day picked up the bow pulled it back and caught his wanker in between the cable an the cam wheel. Broke every window in the house with the squeel. He was up an playing in no time. There is a lesson in there for all of us.

That's probably a call your proctologist should make.
Otherwise, suck it off. It'll go away.

edit: I meant "suck it up" and "run it off", it'll go away.

so how's it doing now? I always wait a few days, and even then rarely ever go to the doctor. Very high pain threshold for me tho...

Hope it's getting better!:yo:

Question the dog. It was a witness to the event, no?
If it won't talk, then it may be complicit in the injury.

was it in the medial part of your leg or was it more lateral? there are numerous muscles in your leg, but it sounds like a flexer muscle(since it hurts to bend your knee). If I was just guessing it sounds like the sartorius muscle, which runs from the outside of your hip to the inside of your knee. This could be why you feel like it is a tendon. I would bet you pulled the muscle, and it will probably take a couple days to return to normal.
