So its that time of the year again and I always keep my sled stored inside but some times in the winter I will leave it outside if I plan on riding it the next day in the fields.

So I was driving home tonight and I noticed there is alot of sledders who keep there sleds outside in there back yard year round and some sleds are new as 2012 and there not even covered and some have old junkers covered. I would be afraid of field mice or other critters leaving moths and dieing in the airbox and cob webbs on the motor and panels fading as well as seat. So just to answer my curiousity I am doing a poll to see who stores there sled inside and outside. If you store it inside a enclosed trailer then do you open vents, set mice traps and other ideas to prevent mode? Also comments why you do what you do.

I personally store my sled all summer long in garage with the sled cover over the top of it and start ocassionaly. I treat my sled like its a new corvette because that is what it is to me.

currently all of ours stay outside....lack indoor toy storage space at the moment
biggest problem i have had is with leaves under the hood...but they all get cleaned and fresh grease/oil/gas befor ethey ever touch snow

hopefully in the near future i'll be able to store them indoors...with me, the wife and 2 of the kids riding, im gonna need to build a big *** shop

i wash wax polish mine after every time i use it. like to show a little pride in what i own. treat it just like you, i figure if i take care of it, it'll take care of me. if we ride 2 days in a row and stay the night on the mountain i cover it. its 11k+ of my hard earned dollars, might be a drop in a bucket for some, but not for me. don't get me wrong it earns its keep out in the trees, not affaid to use it to its full potential and sometimes a little more;) but when i get home show it the love it deserves!!! luckily i have plenty of room to keep all my toys indoors, if i didn't would at least get a poor mans garage. leaving it outside uncovered is just not an option...

its not getting what you want, but wanting what you got!!!

safer in the trailer. My buildings are for use and not storage. More chance of overspray or something happening to it in the shop. I also keep a vent open on trailer to keep condenstation from building in there as well.

Mine is always inside unless I'm using it or hauling it.

But in that case, 50% of the time it's hauled in an enclosed.

Ours stay in the trailer which is in the toy-barn. We have worked all of our lives to accumulate our toys and we have to take good care of them !!! >>>>.

Its in one of my shops or the trailer. Always. parked in front of a cabin is the only night it will ever spend outdoors

Sleds live outside all summer under FULL covers.

Then live inside all winter in a heated garage.

Sweet, well put together, good lighting, chairs, table, and I know you must have a fridge full of cold ones cause the table on the left has a few dead tin soldgiers standing there.:present:

Mine stay outside year around with covers on them and then fully tarped to keep snow, water and sun off them. Keep them stored at Boat and Anchor in Missoula. Tarps even go around the skis and down, over and around the snowflaps. Usually have to deal with the occassional bees nest. An enclosed trailer would be great but not wanting to spend 3 to 5k at this time for that reason plus there are some things i really like about a small 2 place open trailer. The only sled in the garage at this time is sled #3 which is my summer project.

I store my sled in a 40' conex in summer and it lives in the shop at work during the winter.
ATV's have there own garage (shed) built for that purpose, wide doors and ramp.

Hey guys,
Mine are always in the garage, letting them sit out side isn't good I think, the condensation that builds up in the engine rusts the cylinder walls then when you go to start it your scraping off that rust with your rings that can't be good. I work on water craft engines some times and that is something I see a lot, they let them sit outside all winter, then they wonder why they don't last.

Mine is always stored inside.

If you store outside in a dark color trailer, I'd take extra caution if the trailer is in the sunlight because the inside temps get hot and can cause fuel to deteriorate faster.

The less stable the temps, the more chance you have for condensation. If I stored in a trailer or outside, I'd make sure to keep the fuel fresh and fog the engines and oil the cylinders.

mine gets stored inside always unless im traveling (enclosed) or staying at a buddies and there isnt room. im always working on them so its usually in my garage or stored at work in the shop. i also clean and thaw out after every ride (when possible). the new house with triple car garage makes its easy!:whoo:

My sled sat on a crappy little trailer under its cover all summer. Don't have a garage. When I do live somewhere with a garage, it will absolutely be in it. As for the condensation, its pretty dang dry in Gunnison, CO and I haven't had a problem. I drop oil down the cylinders if its going to sit more than a couple weeks though. Had the head off mid summer, everything looked good. Rode it last weekend, still good.

I did however, buy an old Polaris (just for the motor) that had been sitting outside under a semi trailer for 5 years in MN. Pulled the head and there was some rust, but it cleaned up well and is about to begin its 3rd season since I picked it up.
