Down 800-1000 rpms in the deep stuff!

Got an '09 Assault w/ new updates, and its running great on the hardpack, but as soon as I scoot off the trail it falls on its face. Can't get over about 7,000 in the powder. I've dropped to 58g weights, and changed helixes and the drives spring to a red/black with not much change in the way the sled runs. Any other ideas on what I can do. Thanks a bunch. :beer;:beer;:beer;

RPMs

My 09 Dragon held 8100-8250 in 2.5 feet of powder all day long the day before new years. SLP pipe and Jack Struthers set up. 60 gram belly busters with stock spring and his helix. It has a shorter primary cut so the Rs stay up. He has them special cut and is the only place to get them. Call their service department. They recommend 62 grm weights but at my elevation the 60s work better.

X2, have the 08 and the 09 with the same set up from carl's and it pulls hard, for ever and 8150 to 8200 in deep snow!

I have the black primary. to go with the 60g belly busters.

THanks for the ideas on the setup, but to go along with that does anyone have any ideas on why the sled isn't backshifting properly, where should I start, or is it all about the setup to begin with.

Where is your belt riding on your secondary? Make sure it is riding at the grove at the bottom of the ribs on the out side. Sounds like your helix is to flat, is it a dual stage helix? We were having this problem with a couple of sleds this weekend, the two sleds with a single stage helix would not hold rpm in the soft snow.

i have a 03 xc 600 long tracked and does the same thing, thought it had an after market helix but apparently it doesnt. found out there is 62 gram weights in it, and it calls for 58s at my elevation haha, cant trust buying used even one year old from a dealer..........it worked fine all this time but i noticed it does the same as you, 8100 hard pack, get in some snow and just 7000.....put a almond spring in and am going to try 60s but if that dosent work i think we have the same problem with two different sleds!

Have'nt adjusted the belt yet, but its on the list, thanks. Have ran both single and dual helix with no noticable differences, still drops rpms in soft snow, but pass on anymore ideas please and thanks.

What color of spring in your secondary? Could not be dack shifting, a stiffer spring will help if that is part of the problem. At high RPM when you start pulling and lose RPM, your secondary spring might not be stiff enough to hold it open and your clutch is closing a your losing RPM.

Just my two penny's

Check the rollers in your primary. I have seen several with one bad roller and the symptoms are exactly as you describe. It's odd that only one roller goes bad but it is a good idea to replace all the rollers, pins and buttons. Most of the problems happen @ 800- 1100 miles. Just my $.02
