Doo's leaky oil caps

I've heard of many Polaris guys putting Arctic Cat oil caps on their oil tanks(because the threads on the Polaris cap suck). So I would say buy an Arctic Cat cap if you didn't already buy a Polaris one. The cap on my Pro-X doesn't go on even close to straight but it doesn't leak. :o

There is a guy on DooTalk who has an insert which returns the opening to round. I've just installed it on my 03 ZX Summit but haven't tried it yet.

Mike

Had the same problem on my '04 Summit, leaked oil like a s.o.b. Bought the oil reservoir insert from Dan on dootalk.com. I was really surprised when I installed the insert how out of round my reservoir opening was! Needless, to say the insert fixed all my oil leaking problems. Simple fix for a pain the the neck problem. I read all the other remedies out there like using a Polaris cap or wraping the threads with black tape and all I can say is I'm glad I didn't waste my time with them. The insert works and it is worth every penny. Here is a link to the dootalk store http://www.dootalk.com/dtproducts.php. Just scroll down about 3/4 of the page, it's called an Oil Reservoir Delrin Insert and it will cost you $16. Good luck to ya!!!! :beer;

This insert works great for the XP also, but you need to change to the REV style cap. No more leaks! :D

Well guys.....thanks for the input from all angles...even Cowtown. I actually had a close look at the filler neck, it looked oval so I measured the opening.....damn thing was out of round by .070"!!! So, I machined an insert like the one suggested. The stock cap fits like a hot damn! Still have to ride it after the fix but I think it has done the trick.:D

It is pathetic that a $10,000+ machine can't come with a cap that doesn't leak. My 1983 Yamaha doesn't leak. Come on BRP, step up.
