Don't waste your money on College

I agree, believe it or not.

"A college degree" isn't worth near what it used to be, even the ones that are typically "more valuable" than others, such as engineering and math and science degrees ...

But, it doesn't mean "don't go to college", it means send your kids to a school that will actually prepare them for college as opposed to the public babysitting mechanisms of public schools ... and then it means encourage your kid to get a Masters or a PhD ...

Even with a 4-year engineering degree, which is typically one of the most difficult and hence "valuable" degrees to get, the type of job that I would have done 20 years ago as a new engineer has almost all but been completley replaced by computer software thats tried and tested .... given it helps to have the operator know why the software does what it does, but it doesn't ahve to be that way..

I just know that if I could afford it, I'd go back to school for a masters right now.

But yeah, it doesn't mean dont waste your money on college, it means get a degree that isn't worthless and continue that degree with a graduate or doctorate degree.

GRE prep course this summer and this fall a Masters degree in ergonomics.

they have a master's degree in that?

Is that like part of an industrial engineering thing or like a medical thing?

Great! I love engineers without you guys there would be nothing Phoocked up to fix!

LOL!!!

I don't regret my choice of a 2 year degree...really 3 years. I was one of the top kids in my senior class and I picked a 2 year program for x-ray tech. Very good job safety, very good pay, etc and plenty of room to advance as I want with education.

Then there are the suckers who went to 4 years and don't have a job in their schooling yet...

I like the ones who think they know it all, You tell them why it won't work But they know better!! Had one like that though he knew it all, I almost had it out with him but bit my toung and said ok I will build it for you, When it was done and did not work he was shocked and stood there looking lost and then I said OK then do you want me to build you one that will work now?? LMFAO!!

It gets very scary thinking that there are people that are operating the software that do not know what the software is actually doing, or the work that is done.

Get use to it, Its the same way in my trade. The New machines do a LOT of the thinking and the "New" guys don't have a clue how it was done before WEDM and other machines. I learned from my Dad and his partner the way it was done and the new ways. They did some Scary stuff back in there day thats for sure!! A lot of the skill is gone now and will get worce:(

There also wouldn't be anything to work on either..... I love guys like you. You are always good for a laugh.

If you can build it you can most likey design it but that does not go the other way to offten. I love u guys think your better LOL

You'd be surprised at the way you learn how to think getting an engineering degree ;)

I'm not saying engineers are rocket scientists, most all of us aren't, but we have a purpose :)

Most don't think they are better, you guys just seem to like to label everyone as stupid compared to you since you were able to prove it a couple of times.

I love how sometimes guys with 25 years experience are amazed when a guy with 2 years experience makes a mistake. Like that has never happened before. Though, it seems like a lot of the complaints on here are about people trying to build parts designed from those that have never built anything in there life before. I have seen it quite a bit at school. Seems like an opportunity for both to get off there high horse and maybe share some information and try and help each other out.

A closed mind is a terrible thing.

I was talking designing, not manufacturing.... The difference being that even though you guys don't know what you are doing... there is still an engineer that does. he he, just playing with you.

Oh so true ! there is a bright side! The pay is getting better. No one wants to do this work anymore= supply and demand and not every thing is made in China (Yet!)Some stuff is actually coming back across due to chinese quality! Its funny how our business is still regaurded "dirty hands" kinda feild. This is not so true any more at least in my case technology has taken the out the strain and requires a brain. This is why its hard to find help.

That was my point, I Tryed MANY time to tell the guy how and why it would not work but he knew better.

I have said it many times the best engineer's are the one who have goten there hands dirty building things BEFORE they start designing things. Some times they don't get it when you tell there there really is know way to make that at a price that is even close to reality.
