Doing some brick work at home in the off season

O I see. I always thought the Yukon was way far north, and a bit beside Alaska. Pretty sure I failed geography. Lol cool I like the sounds of that. I'll have to do some research into it. Sounds like a good opportunity, but I wouldnt want to live there permanently. That's a bit far north. O not bad at all. I'm nine hours north of edmonton yet. But have to go a bit south to get on the Alaska highway. But still not nearly as far as it would be to go from Edmonton. Is the boom pretty general or more concentrated to certain areas?

The boom is all over...exploration/new mines/govt infrastructure..Whitehorse the Capital is where you would hang your hat then after you made your million you would settle in one of the nice outside communities..get your butt up here,,you either make it rich or can;t afford to leave...lol..

Alright well we got some more done this week. We were hoping for more but we got hit with 2.5 inches of much needed rain so we are rained out right now. Here's a few pics of this weeks progress.

Some flower to brighten up this disaster area lol.

A lot more prep work goes into this than you can see. Preping the base is 70% of the work.

Very Impressive! No other background in Construction? I am in the biz and have seen many jobs that are not that nice. Excellent.

Thanks! Nope not really. I work for the county here. In the parks/playgrounds/buildings and solid waste department. So landscaping and anything related is a big part of my job. But never worked with brick before this. Jack of all trades master of none I guess. Lol

Wow I'm behind on here! Having an insanely busy summer. But this project is moving forward, slowly but surely. Here's a few pics for those who were following.

The last four are from today. Last one shows pretty much the whole works, as well as you can see two of the three kinds of sidewalk blocks that we plan to use, sitting on the pallets there.

Progress

ALMOST DONE! All we have left is a small half moon sidewalk pad at the base of the bottom stairs. As well as the landscaping, but that part is peanuts. O and obviously the deck railing needs to be modified a bit. Hoping for black aluminum railing on the deck, and the stairs next summer. Pics:

Impressive man. Great work! Makes me want to spend all winter designing our new back deck so I can finally have a good place to BBQ all summer.

Thanks guys! It's been an insane amount of work and time, but i think it'll be worth it in the end. I'm looking forward to having it done!

Nice work on the Allan Block wall, and Concourse paver patio! You do good work for sure. Getting the base course just right is the key to a nice looking finished wall.

Thanks! You must be in the business? No kidding base prep is 70% of the job! Ours is not perfect, but I'm happy with it for it being our first project ever. :)

Yep, I sell brick and landscape materials for a living. Allan Block, and PaverLok are two of the brands I represent. It looks like you took your time and did a great job on all the detail cuts, etc. Nice work!

O very cool. Thanks!

Another update: We finished up the brick work yesterday! You have no idea how pumped I am. Lol planning to do the landscaping this weekend. Here's a some pics of yesterday's work.

Thanks! Yes we did, you can buy a special kind of sand for exactly that purpose. It turns almost to cement when it gets wet. We put that in the cracks to fill it all in and keep the weeds out.
