does this look normal

he tore it down to refresh top end, he has never done that, it has all 2k miles boosted.
he wasn't having any problems.
that he knew of...
i was more curious than him, it looked like deto to me as well, just wanted to get others take on it.

Does he have an air-fuel gauge or fuel pressure gauge? Maybe his fueling is off slightly. Charge temperatures too hot? I'm at a loss, i'm not as familiar with turbo set ups as most guys around here, i just built my own kit this summer so it's still fairly new to me. But i think you have detonation, looking at the edges of the pistons they looks like they were bead shot.

all good

you did the right thing tearing it down for a look and putting in new pistons. As often as you look through spark plug holes and power valvle slots, real reliable running information can't be observed until all the pieces are on the bench.

The engine is getting lots of lubrication. It was eased into the operating room as low speed before teardown and hence all the drool. Ideal would always be tear down just after a nice full throttle run.........that almost can never happen.

Is the outside of your engine as dirty as pictures look ? Oily ? If it is, that's a huge clutching issue, cause dirty engines make oily clutch's, and thats an oxymoron. Good luck, a quick look and new pistons are a good way to start the season.

seams a little weird that mag side has an issue before pto side, usually pto runs hotter than mag from my past experiences.:face-icon-small-con

i agree with all that has been said,
its my friends sled, i tease him about how dirty it is as well.
he scraped some of the carbon build up off the piston on the edges and the center and said it is smooth surface underneath.

looks like it had been burning coolant could have caused the det and clean that thing will you how can you tell if anything is leaking if everything looks like its leaking

Looks like deto on left side. Dome looks REALLY peppered.

Looks like pits and chips all around the outside edge of the piston tops. BOTH pistons.

We'd better be careful that the Proclimb guys don't see this. They will jump to conclusions and post threads like, "All sunoco fuel is bad" or "OVS and Sunoco don't mix!" Lol.....I can see it now. One sled has an issue over there and then a bunch o yahoo's thinks they all do. Too funny! Lol

Is the OVS areocharger kit set up with a larger fuel pump, or stock?

Where was he running his AFR/EGT readings?

it seems like he would run it on the safe side, according to him and conversations we have had on the hill.
but honestly i never paid much attention.
i dont know the kit and i dont know what he should be running.
i have a bd kit with no afr gauge, i use egt's for fine tuning.
so its a bit different.

it has always ran pretty good.
i think he uses a different fuel pump too. i think he has an extra fuel pump in addition to the stock one.

so true......

(i have a new proclimb and its awesome, but apparently they are terrible... according to all the experts!!!!)

The top of the head had some carbon deposits, which wipped out clean. I usually run 12 lbs boost. I found the upper ring stuck on the mag side. The pictures of the piston look deceiving, they are in good condition. I appreciate the feed back and I guess I should polish it a little more. Decided to tear it down and refresh at 2K miles and see how it looked inside. Thanks Mark for posting this for me. How many heat cycle and what kind of throttle do you give it?

Thanks
