Does setting back a skid F up the geometry of the sled?

I don't know that it necessarily f's it up but it certainly changes it. just boils down to whether or not it works for you. i moved mine back on my 04 summit to accomodate the 156' conversion, didn't notice any difference from just that. the sled was totally different with the track but i don't think the skid location made that much difference.

ok. this is on an 03 summit. from a 151 stock, put a 153 track on it.

i'm not exactly sure of what the set back dims are yet, but thinking it cant be much. i didn't do the install and haven't seen final product yet.

drivers were swaped from 2.52 x 9t to 3 x 7t. the radius is about 1/2" shorter than the stock driver.

so, thinking the set back can't be more than an inch.

Every chassis reacts differently, setback my 01' Summit skid 4" and it works awesome! Took a little bit to get the drop brackets set right but attack angle can sure help(or hurt)!

going from a 151 to 153 and slightly smaller drivers i would say a 1.5" and your golden, moving em back this much wont really change things at all, its slightly different, but honestly you could almost pick that up with just tension in the track adjustment, but then your maxed out, i went from a 144 to a 151 with my rev by going by back 1 down and 2.5 back and going all the way back with the track adjustment. a little weird, but honeslty, i was able to take up 7 more inches in track with that adjustment, so you see how little your gonna need.

moving the skid back will change the way the sled transfers, if it doesn't transfer enough after the set back then you can move the whole rear scissor assembly forward on the rails a little bit and regain your transfer

I just moved back the skid on a 98 Summit X, about 1.5 inches, maybe 2, went from 136 to 144. I put a Holz kit in it also so this might have affected things also. It rode like a nervous wreck on some hard pack, when standing it wasn't bad, when I sat down it was all over the map. I did have higher bars and different skis, so there were a lot of changes. But I tend to think moving it back is what did it.

I went from a 151 to a 153 on an 01 rmk, set back 2.5" and drop 1". Also went from stock drivers to 3" pitch by 7 tooth. So far it has been great. I had it too tall in the rear and had too much ski pressure. I used the VE drop brackets for the swap and just lowered it one bolt hole and everything works fine now. I would recommend the VE brackets to anybody as it made setup pretty easy.

I startred out with a 144 and went to a 151 without changing the skid, but i lengthend the rails, then went to a 159, I moved back about 1.5 inches and it seemed to make a world of difference on how the sled would perform in the deep stuff, the attack angle was alot milder. (It was on a 01 mountain cat 800) CAUTION: If you move your rails back you need to be very careful that you have a decent length tip on your rails and that the rails don't stab the track. There are a couple of aftermarket anti stab kits you can buy. Just be careful on the first couple of rides.

just did a small set back on my 02 mountain cat. 151-156 def. improved the approach angle will let you know how it worked out later.

Set back

going from a 151 to a 153 you don't NEED to do a setback, if you go with 7 tooth extro's you can get away with an offset axle and the stock 6 inch wheels moved to the inside. even a straight axle with a 7 inch wheel might work :beer;
cheers
