Just as the topic asks, just afraid of getting old race fuel so I need to know if it matters if it were never opened,

Can I mix the oil in the barrel? Seems like it would be the easiest thing to do. Thanks for the input.

WOW...does this mean nobody knows?

Somebody must have an opinion...this IS snowest isn't it! LOL

I've been told that if it is not exposed to air (sealed) that it won't lose its octane, even after you open it if you put the bung back in it will be fine.

I use VP fuels in my sleds and my racecar; they claim they do not degrade over time.
For what its worth I bought a barrel of Ultimate 2 that I had portions of for 2 years and I can't say I noticed any difference, performance or otherwise.
As for mixing oil into the drum, I would avoid it. The oil has a far different specific gravity from the fuel and I'm pretty sure it would separate over time. Besides, its so easy to mix 5 gallons at a time... ever try to shake/stir a 45 gallon drum?

It's not so much the octane loss that you are trying to prevent the loss of, more so the volatility/burn speed.

As far as premixing the barrel.....

Oil and gas do separate when sitting still.
It's pretty hard to shake a 350 pound barrel whenever you need a few gallons.
