Does premix do any good on CFI?

Always liked to mix a little oil in the gas for safety but not sure if it helps on this system. How does the bottom end get lubricated? How about the pistons?

The crank bearings are lubricated solely by the oil pump on the CFI engines. Per SLP's recommendation, I add a few ounces of oil to my gas - mixed in a jug before pouring into the tank. This helps lubricate the pistons better, promoting better ring seal and some added insurance against scuffing and so on.

Also, check your oil pump to ensure it's at least adjusted properly - even better, richen it up a little bit- the Pro are too lean on oil IMO. I have my pump set so I'm about 40:1 or so, a lot better than the 60 to 70:1 Poo sets them at to meet EPA.

Do a search, several threads on oil ratios and pump adjustments in this section.

also helps keep your fuel system a lubed up. As fuel goes through all the fittings, throttle bodies, injectors, reeds, etc it is good to have a little oil lubricate those parts.

Ive always added a little to the fuel. Helps keep the reeds lubed up too.

Actually the reeds stay dry with the Pro's injection system in the cylinders and this is also a big reason why you shouldn't use V-Force with these as the petals chip prematurely since they get no lube!

As far as the original question - definitely use oil in the fuel tank. One of the biggest benefits is that your motor temps will be lower in spring riding conditions (early morning or late evening when iced over) due to reduced piston ring friction. I couldn't understand why there was such a big discrepancy for overheating between sleds set up exactly the same until you find out that one is running a lot richer in oil! Also the lever style oil pump on the Pro is fully open at about 3/4 throttle so you won't get above 40:1 no matter how much you turn up the pump. This is why Carl's, SLP, Fastrax, etc., etc, tells you to add some to fuel tank too. Use 0.5 oz per gall for no motor mods, 1 oz gal for modded motor. And that's the REST of the story!

Have FUN!

I always ran it through my TD800 and it works to lube the reeds on it and also with the Turbo pros with the second set of injectors. The second set of injectors flowed into the intake lubing the reeds on the PRO. Im about 2 weeks into owning a stock sled again so I guess you are right about this! :face-icon-small-win

it depends on whether you are asking about the CFI2 or CFI4 motor. CFI2 motors are injected into the transfer port, not the throttle body, and pre-mix will do little to help the bottom end. CFI4 motors can see a benefit, although mfgs don't typically recommend premix after the initial tank, due to potential injector issues.
