Does anyone else hate insurance companies as bad as I do?

My employer pays all my health insurance, I pay for my kids. I was informed yesterday that as of May 1st. my payment will go up $280.00 per month. The only other option I have is a different plan with a limit of 3 office visits (including any pt needed) per year, no MRI coverage, full deductable on ER, and generic only drugs. No one in our company has had a major claim, they are just preparing for some new laws in 2009.

This isn't the first time insurance has screwed me.I had to file bankruptcy 16 years ago for $1,000,000 of medical that Aetna wouldn't cover.

The thing that REALLY pisses me off is that if I didn't work or was not leagle I wouldn't have to worry about medical bills in the first place.

I'm almost in favor of national health care. At least I would have the benifits I'm paying for.

Okay, I'm done whining for now.

EVEN MORE! Try running a small business and provide good insurance for your people and not go bankrupt in the process! socialized heathercare would be worse! then your family doctors office would be just like the free clinics

Why would the Doctor's office be like the free clinic?? You want a Doctor's office or a country club. Everyone needs to see a Doctor once in a while. I'll continue to pay under $100.00 a month for universal health care and visit my Doctor when I need to. If he's not open, I'll go down the street to one of the "free clinics" and see a Doctor there. You can keep your profit grabbing multi national service providers that are only good at two things.......pushing paper and taking your money. If you had universal health care and your Doctor had what you would deem to be "undesirables", move to another doctor. You're driving down the street and some yahoo piles into your car and just about kills you. Out of the free clinic across the street runs a middle aged man in a white lab coat and a stethoscope around his neck to help you and your family. DO you say no thanks and wait for an ambulance? Doctors sometimes choose to work in free clinics in order to "do the most good". We all bleed if we're cut. Either way it's better than dying. With all of the millions of working people in the US, someone is making a hell of alot of money off of health care. It would all be good if you as citizens were getting helped. Our health care system isn't perfect but I'll take it any day over what you guys have in the U.S.

There....now I've ranted. Call me a doctor. My chest hurts.

I work in the insurance company. (for a few more weeks anyway). I don't agree with their underwriting practices as to who they elect to insure, what they will cover, the premiums and how they treat people. It's why I'm getting out. Going back to selling cars knowing I can sleep at night. I would love to see a socialized healthcare. They have it in other countries and small business still thrive. Need to stop listening to the scare tactics of the politicians whom the healthcare industry has bought off. Select all the good points of other countries medical structure and adapt them so they'll work here.

pay up

maybe if most of the premiums we pay went for healthcare rather than to enrich the insurance industry and pay for their decadent real estate investments.....i pay $385 a month for me and my kid, self employed, $1000 ded....80/20% on first $5000 with Blue cross/shield....too bad they won't cover some of the things I really need but they do pay promptly for alot of things, if you can figure out the statements......national health care would be an economic burden as I feel that the 47 million without insurance is a way lowball number and every mother and child would be running to the doctor for every little problem they have. Notice you never hear about insurance provider reform in the healthcare debate....the industry owns our politicians....yea I hate'em all.

Insurance companies, biggest racket along with oil companies. I have been fighting my insurance company over their "Supposed policies". I asked them if it was a law and was told no. They were unable to answer my questions, only giving me lame excuses. Flat Out Crooks...............

Appenertyly you need a sedative!!J/K What I mean is as F'ed up as our health care system is I would rather it be the way it is than have to wait in line after a welfare recipent! Sure it costs me a rediculous amount but thats why I work hard to have things a little better for myself and family. But I guess this is an American thing being Canadian you wouldn't understand !what socialized heath care does is lower the standard of care for everyone especially for those who pay the most to have it. we have heath care for every one in this country already (medicare, ect.) you just have to ask for it and you will have it. Its not great but its there. Why should everyone get the same coverage I get when they contribute less or nothing at all?

****k it, you just as well go to Law School, too. :face-icon-small-win :D :beer;

My views on our healthcare system:

Our government was founded as a government for the people. Unfortunately representatives that were elected through generations became representatives for big business. How come we cannot have a socialized medical system like Canada? Because of big business and greed. The free market system isn't always good for some things. Medical is one of those things. I personally know of family members that have avoided having necessary surgery because they didn't have health insurance. I told this to my Canadian friend, and she said that she has never heard of such a thing. How sick is it, that our government cannot come up with a solution? I think that everyone in our country should be entitled to free healthcare.

I was a recipient of free government provided healthcare for six years while serving uncle sam. I can say without a doubt I would rather pay for it. There is nothing government does well or efficiently except waste money. Healthcare is no different.

Why should everyone get the same coverage? We don't. With insurance there are many specific things that aren't covered. I have to pay premiums, deductables, copay, facility charges, out of pocket for name brand drugs, office visits over 3 per year, it goes on & on. It costs me $8000 a year for insurance premiums plus all the deductables, and someone without gets no cost at all in a lot of cases. This is socialized medicine at it's worst!
I am a conservative and believe in earning what you get, but this is out of control.
I have great respect for Doctors, nurses, techs and everyone else and think they should be able to make the money they deserve. I would worry about incentive for them in a socialized setting.

I agree! but this is one of those issues where we are F@@ked either way! Getting the goverment involved is however the only way i can see to make it worse!

Exactly!

DING, DING, DING we have a winner this has got to be the best and simplest answer to this question there is! What Government run program is successful? lets see.......umm I can't think of one, what ever happened to the thought process of LESS government involvement. Could you imagine the tax rate if the Government took over heath care?

Who says you are entitled to Health care at all? why is it the governments job ie taxpayers job to make sure you are covered? if you don't like the rates you can always pay as you go!

My sister lives in B.C. and drives to the states for her health care. The waiting lists are long unless you are on the verge of death. Yes it is expensive here in the states but it is the best medical care in the world. This same story is true for all other countries with socialized health care. Think about it, right now the cost of medical care in the U.S. is very high, so high that many people just don't go unless they are dying. If we made the move to free or low cost health the hypochondriacs would glut every available doctors office immediately. Dont get me wrong here, my health insurance at work costs me $90/ mo. with my employer matching the other half, but my wife is $180/mo and the kids are $120 each but in spite of that I still don't think free health care is the way to go. Here is a link to a similar discussion not to long ago.

I know right! I used to keep a top 10 list of professions that can kizz my arse. And I've been 4 of the top 10. Just trying to make a difference and not be like the bad apples in the profession.

I did too. Still use it since I have a VA right here and I'm a vet I can still use their services free. (any vet can, disabled or not). I didn't think it was to bad, yeah it sucked having to go to the aid stations with the gatekeeprs etc. I don't think we should model a new system like the Canadian, the British or Germans. 2 Countries have revamped in the last 20yrs. Switzerland (A democracy) and Taiwan (booming free trade economy). Someone posted a video link that was an hour long on a Frontline episode. Great view should maybe dig for it.

We haven't been #1 for years. Were 37th now. Look at some of the countries that are ahead of us. http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html We may have the most talented Doctors and treatments but it doesn't mean anything if you can't get treatment. Wait till you meat someone who gets turned down a procedure that could save their life due to it not being covered under the insurance carriers plan.

my wife is a director of finance for a major hosp. and trust me, way better then other countrys. yes you have to pay for it, but you get what you pay for. yes they can improve it. insurance covers very little of the bill

example
a bill that costs $10,000 cost you without insurance $10,000 but insurance will only pay around $4,000. not fair yes.

they have many programs availible for you that you must ask and they will help you out. laws were passed but noone knows about them. also, as long as you set a payment plan with them they will not send a collection agency after you. even if its 20 bucks a week

drs dont make as much as you think. they dont make millions, maybe 100 to 200 thousand tops. yes it sounds like alot but they went to school for 8 plus years (big bill) plus they pay BIG $ to insurance because of people who sue. they made the market crazy. you try your best to save someone and if they make a mistake, your rich beotch.. lots of stress and on call always.

were she works they have a dr who does a hip replacement and you walk out the same day, thats crazy. health care would go down and service too. if you need free healthcare, go to free clinics, thats why we have them. fill out paperwork and wait till it gets worse. could go on for hours but im not going too
