Doctors piss me off!

Thanks for all the support guys. It's been a long night. She was up until 4am and had to get up at 6am to goto work in pain. Still waiting for results that were supposed to be done by 9am this morning. Guess the radiologist didn't review the scans last night as promised.

hope they get you some results man.

Not sure how it is out in Pierre, but alot of smaller hospitals may only have a radiologist on during day hours, or some even only have a radiologist come read films once or twice a week. Also could be that a resident read the scans last night and they have to be checked by a staff Dr.

Waiting does tend to suck.

Sorry to hear that, I know doctors can be worthless at times. I have been to many that ignored me altogether. They look at me like a wussy girl with a broken finger nail when I'm in excruciating pain. A couple times I've had to take my boyfriend so they would give me a little respect and listen to the symptoms, etc. There are a few good ones, but not many. When my gallbladder was giving me hell last winter, a couple doctors told me I had heartburn and wouldn't do anything else for me. I would have an attack while out riding, a couple times hill climbing and I would have to just hang on and try to make it back down. Can't breathe, can't move, want to throw up, it sucked. And they wouldn't do anything. Finally found a doctor that would take it out, even after all the tests weren't conclusive. Some told me I couldn't have an overactive gall bladder. Not possible. Guess what, I had one and the surgery worked.

Seems they want to just test for everything possible and not use their brain to rule things out and find out what's wrong. I HATE doctors. I won't even go in for a fractured bone unless it's really bad.

I won't even go in for a fractured bone unless it's really bad. -man I hate to come across as the defender of healthcare(really just x-rays) but again, Drs have been pushed to the point where it pays to be 90 percent sure vs 50 and a hunch.

Too many people get mad and blame the Dr if they go on that hunch and 50 percent. People get sued, people want the Dr to pay for the unneeded procedure. But on the other hand, it seems people want Drs to fix "it". Only problem is, they are scared of the what ifs involved. They take the old "measure twice cut once" to the extreme. They can't use the brain to rule things out without doing tests to rule it out. Not to mention insurance companies will only pay for certain things and only pay so often, so the Dr has to keep that in mind as well.

Again, I agree there are TONS of morons, but they are highly educated and trained morons. You wouldn't take your sled to a guy working at REI.

^^ Not to mention throwing into the mix the med seaking hypocondriacs, outright drug addicts, lawyers, ect.

Just think about how difficult the machine they are working on is. No 2 of them are the same. It can grow it's own problems, fool itself into believing it has a problem that isn't there just because of stress or anxiety.

Heck many of us have troulbes fixing little recurring gremlins on our sleds yet expect the Dr. to have the magic touch for everything.

Fosgate - this is in NO way an attempt to discredit you or your girlfriends issue just kinda deffending the medical field and supporting what X was saying. Best of luck to you and the GF.

Ya I realize that, but I have been to so many that don't even try. I had a severe back injury last year, 8 months of physical therapy and the doc refused to do an xray or scan or anything. Wouldn't give me anything, wouldn't even refer me to a chiro. I gave up after 8 months, he told me every visit to take more advil. He didn't even look at it for more than 5 seconds. It's those kind of doctors that make me disbelieve most of the others. I was begging for tests, he wouldn't do anything. I was there every 3 weeks, at the PT 3 times a week.

I hope your girlfriend has a good doc that will try to find a solution. These things can take a long time.

Dunno, she lives in Sioux Falls and is in Sanford. Maybe they just bought new lab coats and buildings with all those millions Denny Sanford donated to them. She may go to Avera McKennan if no news. I keep trying to convince her to let me take her over to Mayo in Rochester MN where they actually know medicine and don't just practice it.

Bring her on over man. I'll buy ya a beer when I get off work:beer;

Only problem is, the Mayo docs get picky and she may have to redo a few of the tests.

Maybe that's part of it being from MN I gotta say I've had very few bad experiences in the medical field there. I damn near died when I was 17 from something that caused me to get pneumonia and the docs did everything imaginable to save my azz, and managed to do it. Maybe it's just better there, I don't know.

Story....

So one day a docter brings in a Porsche into the mechanic to get some work done on it. The mechanic is done working on the car and he brings it out front for the Doc to pick up. He gets out of the car and looks at the doctor and says: "Hey doc, I just don't get it. You and I both get paid to work on fine pieces of equipment but for some reason you get paid a hell of a lot more than I do to keep this equipment in tip top shape!!! The doctor looks at the mechanic and says: "Next time you think that you should get paid as much as I do, why don't you try rebuilding that motor while it is still running and see how far you get!!"

My father was a hospital director before he retired, my wife is a doctor, and I used to work for a hospital "working" with insurance companies, so I think it's at least fairly safe to say I have some personal experience with this system outside of being a patient. Saying "doctors suck" is like saying "mechanics suck" or "lawyers suck" or whatever. Medicine, like any other profession has it's share of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Also, like others have already said, there are a sh*tload of problems with our health care system that have nothing to do with doctors, and some problems that do. Now add a society wehere everybody wants to sue somebody and the f*cking lawyers (yes, I'm a lawyer) into the mix, and you've got one big stinky mess.

By the way, my guess would be that the reason they didn't just do a blood test to check for appendicitis is because you said she had been having pain for years and/or months. Pretty sure that the vast majority of people with appendicitis suffer from a ruptured appendix within a matter of a few days from the onset of sympoms. Chronic appendicitis, which is what you are describing, is a pretty rare diagnosis.

Either way, I hope they get it figured out.

Do you and your wife want to adopt a 25 year old with a wife and two kids? Never even have to see me, but I'll put you in a good nursing home, etc. Just put me as the only person in your will....PRETTY PLEASE:)

i wont go unless i am scheduled as thier very first appointment early in the morning. It drives me crazy to wait for these kooks. the other thing that drives me nuts is that these folks have to diagnose and treat you for somehting even though 90% of the time there is absolutely nothing wrong with the person.

yep, what did I misunderstand?

It took 15 years to finally find a Dr. that gave me the right diagnosis. One time about 10 years ago I was told that they believed I had colon cancer until the the biopsy came back negative. Can you imagine the stress that caused waiting for the results to come back? I feel that Dr's should only be paid when they are right. IMO that would help Dr's spend more time, and not treat patients like they're in an assembly line. Until you put yourself in other people shoes that have had very negative experiences, then maybe you wouldn't get up on your soapbox and judge and defend so harshly.

Every time I have gone to the Dr. I am given a prescription. If you don't think that the medical industry is controlled by the Pharmaceutical industry then you are just plain nuts. A lot of times medicines cause more problems than good. So yes, as the title of the thread states, At times Dr's piss me off too!

Yes a hernia is a possibility

First off, I'm not a doctor, and don't even play one on TV. But, a hernia can flare up and fade symptomatically for years. My wife's did - for years, and it was misdiagnosed several times. Finally, one internal medicine physician diagnosed it. Simply and quickly, and outpatient surgery corrected it and the problem went away.

You want to fix something like this too, as it can lead to problems you don't want to have. Unfortunately, getting good medical care is somewhat like walking around asking God to make life "fair" - an exersize in futility. With apologies to all of the good physicians out there. All 7 of you.........

Good luck and best wishes to the girlfriend, seriously.

I would, but that would screw up my plans to adopt a 18 year-old Swedish girl, and I'm already having a tough time selling the wife on that...

Any new news Fosgate?

CT scans came back inconclusive. They wanted to check her for a couple other off the wall things and or exploratory surgury. Going to goto a Chiropractor first to make sure not a back problem pinching a nerve or something first. Exploratory right now is our last resort. But were going to get to the bottom of it soon since her annual deductable has been paid for the year.
