why not just pick up the cell phone??

because i'm lazy and when im in the basement i dont want to have to run up stairs to get the cell phone when there is one right there, or in every other room, wanting to be used. also will save 5 bucks a month from dishnetwork for having system connected to a phone line at all times.

Hmm, does that device give you a dialtone or just handle audio and on/off-hook?

Also, something to be aware of is the bandwidth on cellular networks differs from that of landlines... the modems we use at work don't work through cellular gateways because of that limitation. If it doesn't give you a dialtone, I'd be surprised if your dish receiver could use the line.

was told it gives a dial tone and that you just plug into the the wall jack and will let you use your other wireless phones in the house just like normal.

Hmm, might be worth a try then. I still don't know about data service over it, like I mentioned above we used a phone adapter and tried to get our modems to call in through cellular phones a while ago at work and it'd call in and connect but there wasn't enough audio bandwidth on the line to support data across the link. You will probably run into the same problem with the dish receiver; but you never know till you try.

What's the price of one of those dealies?
