Do you really HAVE to run APV oil?

I have always run APV oil in my sleds. But i recently bought a new sled and the guy i bought it from has run amsoil in it. I have also heard alot of cat guys running the new polaris VES oil, my dealer says its basically the same exact thing as APV. I have an 07 M8. What do you guys think? Do you really HAVE to run APV?

nope but i would run synthetic, unless you enjoy cleaning your valves lots. go anywhere but a dealers and save some bucks.

I run good old fashion castrol $20/gallon no problems. I wlll howecer clean my valves at the start of every year just for the fun of it.

My dealer buys it buy the 55 gallon drum and if you bring a jug he sells it cheap. I know poeple that run amsoil and like it, I swithched oil once and smoked a motor costing over a grand so I stick to the APV, some oils can burn hotter so if you do switch you may want to check it just in case but I think the amsoil is the same chit

My 08 M8 has not seen apv since the first tank was run through. I use klotz, but any synthetic will be fine.

yamalube, have over 5,000 miles on my 07 using this, $20 a gallon. clean my powervalves every 1,000 miles and hardly notice a difference...

Klotz for my '08 M8 as well.....as well as my weed wacker, chainsaw, and anything else I run 2 stroke oil in.

i always run the apv. why not? to save a couple bucks a gallon? hmm... might as well run the mid grade gas while i'm at it.

especially with the sled still under warranty, i'd rather pay the couple extra bucks and run what they suggest. then if there is a problem, less chance they can deny me

redline

We all run redline here, all the guys I ride with ski-doo and polaris. We know the rep.no problems to date and the valves stay real clean.Any good synthetic will work.whatever is the best deal...:D

Any quality synthetic oil will work fine. IMHO amsoil doesn't fit into this catagory, almost every sled that comes into the shop with stuck valves or broken cables has amsoil in the tank.... Take it for what its worth

I have ru. Klotz with no issues, but the smell is starting to get to me. What is the Redline odor like?

Then you should be running 87 octane! Cat only just upped the octane recommendation with the new motor in the 2010's.

I have been running APV in both of our M sleds for a few years now, and each year the valves look pretty clean. I mean the oil works, it does not smell great, and it is definitely not cheap, but it has worked for us. I usually buy it by the case, and get a pretty decent discount, so its not so bad. My dealer sells Yamaha as well, he rents mostly all Arctic Cat sleds, and each cat gets the Yamalube 2S mineral based oil. This is the cheaper stuff, but if you keep the valves clean it works as well. He has put tens of thousands of miles on these rental sleds year after year, all running Yamalube 2S. He has not converted me over yet, but the proof is there that it works. I do think it has an unpleasant smell though

Now I know many guys who run Redline, and to me that is one of the best 2 stroke synthetic oils on the market. Very clean burning, little residue on your valves, and smells decent. It is pricey, but to some extent you get what you pay for with oils.
