I am debating whether I should get insurance on my snowmobile or not. I understand that it may depend on the value of the snowmobile but I am curious how everyone else feels about insuring their snowmobile when it is optional and not required by a bank etc.

I have created a few of my own problems with small crashes that I pay for out of pocket but it would really suck to have to come up with $12,000 out of pocket in the middle of season to replace a wrecked sled. Definitely carry insurance. I pay about $25 per month in the winter and then I cancel it during summer months.

Absolutely i do. Full cvg comp an collision. 300 bucks a year. Have totaled 4 so far.

I even carry full cvg on my old sleds. 99 xc 700 costs about 60 bucks a year.

250 deductibles, although i always pay the small stuff myself (a arms etc) an save the claims for the big hits.

In this day and age, how can a person NOT have at least liability coverage?

Yup, that's why I got it.

Never know how things will shake out if/when it hits the fan!

Let a friend bum a ride and they wreck real bad, or avy. Even if they stayed a true friend, their own insurance would probably hang them out to dry and come after you.

I have all mine covered also, no way I could sleep worrying about getting sued because a newby I took along hurt someone or totaled my sled for that matter. With a $500.00 deductable coverage is $180 per sled and $20 per thousand for accessories or mods, my turbo pro costs $280 per year but covered to 22 thousand.

Yea mines insured. seeing how they are made out of tinfoil and cost 12 grand.

This! I gladly pay $246/yr on my '11 RMK Assault to know my a$$ is covered should my sled go rolling down the mountain, let alone should it collide with someone along the way. :face-icon-small-sho

Think I pay around 200 or so I keep it insured year round, that way its covered in storage.

I totaled myself out on a sled when I was younger now if I were to buy insurance its around the 850 every six month range so its just easier to not wreck, and ride less carelessly.
Besides I don't think insurance replaces aftermarket sled parts? Most all mine are totally "aftermarket"

I figure it this way, when I break stuff I can replace it with better parts than the manufacturer. I just got to shell out what I'd pay for a insurance premium.

Hey I bet its feasible for anyone who's not in my situation. And insurance mandatory on any sled the bank really owns? Which looks like 85% of the people out there.

150.00 a year for full coverage on a $$13000.00 toy, how can you not carry insurance!

heck my dirt bikes have full coverage too

But what does that go to should you actually total a sled and have to use insurance? That's what I hate about insurance, if you use it, they screw you. I pack just liability on my two pickups. Given they aren't new or anywhere near it, but what I save not having full coverage will allow me to pay out of pocket should one get totalled. Then if you never use it, it will never go up. Insurance is a scam IMO

Wow I must be getting hosed on insurance or Canada is that much more expensive than the states. I pay $760/yr for full coverage on my 163 T3...

I agree it is a scam as even if you do not use it the premium can still go up eventually. Maybe not as much if you filed a claim but can still go up. After enough people in your area file claims on sleds they have totaled or had major claims on they seem to raise everybodys premium in the area or zone...doesn't seem to matter they have been collecting premiums for quite awhile...when they pay out they seem to want to get more to cover their costs. Had insurance on one of mine, hit a stump that was buried in the powder. Had about a thousand dollars in parts damage. I repaired it out of my pocket than a short time later was talking to my insurance company, was told it was unforeseen and unavoidable (hidden in the snow) so I could claim it and premium would not go up. Turned in claim. When next insurance premium was due it went from 700 (per year for 3 sleds and trailer) that I had been paying to 1600......I called them up and all I got was "that adjuster had no business telling you it would not change your premium, he was incorrect"...I promptly changed insurance companies.

So how will you pay to fix that 13 thousand dollar sled if its wrecked? I have only had a few claims in my life but they paid for what I expected them to pay for
