Do modular helmets work? (not a joke)

I own several helmets as we play in the dirt in the summer. I have the bombi bv2s mod and my newest is the klim helmet. I think they all have good an bad traits. The mod is the warmest helmet I have, however for me it is a problem as I sweat bad when working in the mtns. Fogging is not an issue with this helmet, but it gets heavy and I usually am taking it off every time we stop. With the klim I find I leave it on all day, unless we are stopping for a long break or lunch etc. It is lighter and keeps my head cooler. I think on super cold days the mod will be what I wear and on normal days the klim.

Anyway, if you go mod I would get the bombi helmet, it is pricey but works very well.

the old modular ones were not safe. saw a buddy hit a tree in the mountains only going about 20 or so and it cracked off the bottom piece, and he had to get his jaw sewn up. dont know if there any better now but ive never worn one after seeing that. i bring two helmet and leave one in the truck, ones a full face hjc and the other is a klm, has a shield or you unscrew it and wear goggles. googles on warm days full face on cold days. BUT THIS YEAR IM LOOKING FOR A VADER MASK:D:D:DBEST HELMET IVE EVER SEEN

I have a pencil neck, weigh 143 lbs and can wear any helmet. They're not THAT heavy. LOL Suck it up and be tough. HAHA.

I tried one on in a store one time (h2otoyz captured the moment) and realized that those NMFHs ARE heavy...but that may have only been because I was laughing too hard to hold my head up..

Got 2 slipped disc in neck, hard to be tough when that pain kicks in.

im too lazy to read the thread. get the scott 89xi goggles. they rarely fog up on me

i ride with a bike helmet and some cheep a$$ scott googles, and they barely ever fog on me, i do wish i had a warmer helmet on the really cold days but i like the freedom of the bike helmets. my buddy has a MOD helmet, the thing was like a fog machine if it was above zero out, bet below 0 he was always taking it off. now he has a new Klim he got for warmer days, which is what we almost always ride. Bike helmets are just the ways to go, and i need to try these googles my friend doesnt use, they are smith prodigys and they have an open/close vent on the top to let them cool off.

i found if you dont stop moving they never fog. have fun with that one

I am new here but would like to post a reply on modular helmets. In febuary my buddy and myself were riding in Quebec and he was hit by a drunk rider and was killed. The guy who hit him had a modular helmet on. And took the impact in his helemt area, The latch assembly broke and he took it hard in the face. It was a great quality helmet also. Not saying that a normal full face helmet would of saved him. But after seeing that i would never wear a modular. Also not saying that all accidents would be that hard. But its my head. Sorry to carry on i just wanted to put my 2 cents in.

I tried on a Bom Modular this weekend. XXX large. Couldn't even close the front. We're talking freakish HUGE melon here. I'm going to the hardware store, buying a coal bucket, cutting out some eye holes and calling it good!

For goggles use Quick straps & move goggles to the upper helmet rather than remove them. They stay cool and don't get snow on the inside that way. Normally mine don't fog & I have ProVue with prescription inserts.
