Disparity between US and Canadian Price continues

Thought I would compare spring order prices between Canada and the US.
2012 Summit X E-TEC 800R 163 Black on Black
US MSRP $12,649
CDN MSRP $14,149.....$1500 (11.86%) MORE

As the current exchange rate is at par and has been within 3% of par for the last year. Why is Ski-Doo continuing to charge their fellow Canadians nearly 12% more?

Parts, another thing that drives me nuts. I never figured it out but i bet its a lot more than 12% cheaper. Maybe more like 20 25

Somebody's got to pay for all that "free" government healthcare. Sleds are toys. Expensive too, so bureaucrats (yours, ours, doesn't matter) figure if you can afford one, you can afford to get screwed buying one. Knowhattamean?

hmm you'd think that since they are made in Canada they would be cheaper...seeing as Polaris and arctic cat are manufactured in the USA and have tariffs to pay to Canada to import them

In a nutshell!

Its pretty laughable, this doesn't account for the price difference between US and Can, however I bet the OEs build in $ 5000 worth of warranty work into the pricing seeing as the sled are nothing short of total POS. As for being a Canadian customer, we are expected to declare bankruptcy shortly after purchasing a snowmobile.

my 2011 Summit X etec

-Blown motor
-sacked out shocks in 500 km
-leeking oil reservoir
-multiple electrical issues, grip heaters, kill switches
-Oil pump electrical failure
-Under weighted cluthces
-Ridiculous break-in periods, just finished my second one.

Not much different than buying a rat-bagged used heap, either way it will cost you a fortune.

Well one thing I know for sure is that I will NEVER snow check another machine...total waste of money!!! They are thousands cheaper half way thru the season. Also, after importing my 2009 xp and saving thousands again, I doubt I will ever buy another sled in Canada while the dollar is at par or above 90 cents US.

Oh god you get them cheap. You think $1500 extra to cover "healthcare" and what not is bad??

A 2011 RMK/M8/XP is $25000+... A Nytro is another $5000...

To ship s sled from the US to Norway cost approximately $1000. The rest is, in my opinion, daylight robbery by the fekkin socialists who feel the need to overtax everything slightly fun...

the amount of taxes we pay are out of this world, never mind having to pay tax on something twice when buying a used vehicle/sled for example. the original owner has already paid all taxes, then you buy it and have to pay them again. it's flat out rape. might as well pull down your pants and prepare to allow the government to port and polish your chili ring....dry! we're paying 1.33$ per liter for premium gas right now too. it's absolutely crazy:pout:

we run sleds, boats you name it up to the Canadian border mostly for Crashed toys.com and crankyape.com if any of you Canadians need anything brought to the border drop me an email we can make it work on this end............

Don't forget to factor in the government subsidies, at least for the Doos.

That's Bombardier. Not BRP. However...
The QC and Fed gov't have gone 50/50 on new technologies buildings and similar extensions onto Universities that are run by BRP. My feeling on those.....least kids are learning and dreaming up ways to create more fuel efficient tech as well as designing our next crop of sleds for the future(as well as other vehicles)

Subsidized indirectly yes......however I doubt BRP would have these programs and the like if the gov't didn't partially fund them. They simply wouldn't reach out and build em.

As a dealer, we were told 3 or 4 years ago to suck it up. Canadians pay more for pretty much everything we buy simply because that's what the market will bare. When the sled market takes a major dump in Canada and stays somewhat steady(steady decline) everywhere else, then they might re-adjust pricing, but very unlikely there will be that much of a drop in unit sales to the point where ALL 4 OEMS decide to make the playing field level again. All 4 are raping us, not just BRP. So don't blame Canadiens(I still doubt too many of them are FROM Canada ;) ) for that one.

They got their share of direct subsidies long before the two companies split. I guess I'm still not over it! LOL!

thank you canada for being a socialist country.
signed all the retailers just below the border.

i see it with furniture also, all goods in canada are more money.

Would you really expect snowmobile manufacturers to lead the way in trying to even out 2 completely different economies? Like really??

EVERYTHING costs less in the states....houses, cars, boats, taxes, double 1/4 pounders with cheese, cell phones, pepsi, cereal, you name it. Why would sleds be any different?

It's a completely different country, with 10 times the population (read; 10 times the buying power). Sleds are twice as expensive in Europe....does that make you feel better? The only difference with the US is that it happens to be close by, nothing else. Doesn't change the fact that it is a completely seperate country with vastly different population density's, debt loads, competition, tax structure, etc, etc.

In a nutshell, we pay more in exchange for a more stable economy, no big mystery.
