Discovery-800 Backfire & Hard Start

After loving my 800 performance post PCV install, things changed. On a tight hill climb, I tried to fit between two trees that were a bit too tight. After a bit of rescue efforts we dislodged it and I was back playing despite two more bent A-arms (#33&34 BTW) purely my fault. But when I started it, it reved oddly. However the rest of the day was less eventful.

Last weekend, I went to load it onto the trailer for an optional backup and it would not run. It would either gunshot backfire, or start and run for less than 2 seconds. Sufice to say, I left it behind and took only my old reliable 07 D7 155 with PCV. And did it perform well in the 5-8 feet of windblown powder. Now back to the assault.

Tonight I started to diagnose the problem. I removed the PCV. Problem remained. I started looking at the throttle trigger freeplay. While it didn't strike me as excessive (seemed less than 0.060"), I tightened it anyways. Low and behold, it starts and runs without issue. I left it with maybe 0.020 free and all is well.

While running on the jackstand, I noticed why these things burn down stock. AFR's were running in the 15.3-17.5 range in the mid throttle positions. After reinstalling the PCV(with DTR's 158 map), those midrange numbers wer 13.8 to 14.2 and the top end was in the high 12's. Peak revs jumped from 8000 to 8300. BTW, I have 8350 on recall after PCV.

Don't know how many this will help, but I must admit, I thought my problem was much worse than a stretched throttle cable!!!!!!!
