Disappointed with 700

I took my 2006 700 out tonight for the first time since buying it, and it was quite a let down. I swear my 1998 600 xc pulled harder than this thing does. Its only getting up to about 7600-7700RM, which i think is normal. I was running the stock 64/36-25 helix and stock Red/Black secondary spring. Primary had the stock black/green spring with 10-66 weights. This was at 1500 feet, I normally ride at 10,000+. I'm identical to the SLP setup, except for the elevation. http://www.startinglineproducts.com/instsheets/09-755.pdf. Of course, I could be looking at the wrong SLP link too.

Anyways, I'm hoping I can tune my clutches a bit to help wake this thing up. It doesn't bog, holds steady RPM while accelerating. But it just feels like a damn rental Yamaha or something. Any suggestions?

My friend had the same sled it felt like it had linear power (no snap to it). I know there are quite a few other 700 owners on this site that should be able to help you out.

That sled is the smaller version of the 900 (755). There is a lot of discussion on the 900 and several threads on the 900 as well. Polaris doesn't make either sled anymore because they were not a great success. Some owners have found ways to make the sleds work. They are torquey sleds and I've heard the 755 doesn't have any snap and is linear like others have said.

Talk to mountainhorse and mule. They have experience in getting the 900 to work and might have some suggestions on the 755. You can take a lion out of the jungle but it is still a lion. There will only be so much you can do to that sled.

quick question to this thread. i bought a brand new 06 900 switchback about a moth ago and havent been able to ride the thing yet, so i am kind wondering, almost scared now that a dealer sold me the crapper 900 or 755 then the true 900. so my question is, how are you supposed to tell if yo have the true 900 or the smaller 900 (755) verison by just looking at the sled? what are the hints or what should i look for to see if mine the is 755 or true 900?

thanks

1 says "RMK 900" on the side, the other says "RMK 700".:D

alright thanks. i just had read some of the blogs above and it made it seem like polaris came out with 2 900 but that was was really a 755 being advertised as a 755.

Because these motors are low RPM motors they are very deceptive and give the impression of not much power. I would be willing to bet if you put that thing on a hill and compare it to your other sled it will rip it to shreds. It seems the more you ride that sled the more you will see what I am talking about.

EXACTLY...thank you Dave...

my wife has the 06 700, i ride an 05 900, and i love her sled just as much as my 9..of coarse its different..but like dave stated..its a beast..

seems to me you need to dig into more and do some tuning..

i will tell you right now your stock helix is junk..and you most likly have garbage gearing..

drop some 19/42 gears in there..and get a helix for your style..either mountains or flat lander..it does matter which one...

i will put my wifes 06 700 againist quite a few others out there...older 7 or newer 7..and ill show you what properly setup 7 will do ;)

if you need more help..let me know..i will point you in the right diection..:beer;

hey guido, i have an 06 900 that i bought brand bew about a month ago and it is all stock. i will be also riding pretty much on groomed trails in the u.p. of mi. and some off trail riding. i dont have much money, but is there anything in specific you would do with the stock 900 for my riding conditions with little amount of money to spend?

thanks

i dont want to hijack this thread..but to put in out there basically..read this thread "in detail" and if you cant afford one of the upgrades...start there...but use your judgement and compare that specific part on your sled, and detertime whats most imp to you for your riding style, condition of your sled, and budget..

if you need any details on anything let me knw...but it should be pretty easy to understand..
