diffience in 03 vertical escape head and a 04 head?

the 03 vertical escape has a different part number then the 04 800 head. anyone know the difference?

Might be a different size hole for the water temp sender? I think it's something like that.

It's the DET sensor mounting hole, The 2003 VE was the first year they used DET and the sensor was made by Mitsubishi and in 2004 they changed to a Bosch sensor. Thus mounting holes are different sizes. The sensor used in the 2004 is smaller. So I would think you could drill and Tap a 2004 head to work with the 2003 but not the other way around. Unless you could find an insert to reduce the thread size. The bolt size for the 2004 is M8X1.25X30. On the 2003 the entire sensor screws in and im not sure about the exact thread size.

Quite a big differnece in price!

This is also the reason you can't switch the CDI boxes.

Water Inlet

The water inlet is larger on the 04 than the 03. I just did a motor swap and had to come up with something there.

Hoses

I know the 04 uses a different hose routing than the 03's w/o DET. I used an 04 head on mine and changed out the hoses so that the by-pass hose from the water pump back to the head is eliminated. The hose to the head comes from either the brake or the tunnel heat exchanger, I can't remember.

The water outlet & inlet on the 03 VE and the 04 are the same size, The Non VE in 03 that did not have DET or electronic reverse did run a different size and routes the cooling hoses different. This is also because the NON VE used the old style chaincase and brake system.
