Difference between Edge X & RMK

The Edge X is a flatland sled, short track, different trailing arms, all sorts of different stuff.

There were 2 different 03 RMKs, the standard and the Escape. But they both were quite a bit different than the Edge X

sled_guy, do you know whats different between the escape and std rmk besides track, det sensor? i am trying to figure if my vertical edge is more like std or an escape, seems like an in between.

What they said. Plus the Escape has the "Phantom" brake and chaincase. The standard RMK's chaincase looks like all previous chaincases more or less, the Escape one is smaller at the top and has a rounded cover.

http://i.ebayimg.com/t/POLARIS-EDGE-CHAINCASE-ASSEMBLY-01-02-03-XC-RMK-USED-/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/$(KGrHqZ,!qoFCTCs6(MKBQoFYfS,7Q~~60_57.JPGis a picture of a standard chaincase... couldn't find one of the Escape chaincase.

Also, the Escape has a light weight seat, actually a full on copy of the BOSS seat minus the air ports. Polaris got sued over that. It also has light weight trailing arms and the rear suspension arms were lighter.

And the original ones had a flimsy azz steering post that liked to break and really inopportune times... those were replaced under a recall.

Chaincase is the easiest way to tell. If it has reverse it may have been added, they made kits to do that. If it doesn't have reverse then its not an Escape or someone has gone through the effort to pull of a great feature.

So it looks like the vertical EDGE (what i have) is a std rmk with upgraded shocks and color scheme.

It will be darn near an Escape when i am done, just need to find the reverse CDI i misplaced to put in the PERC kit.

The 04' and up RMKs got the phantom case too. This is mine (04') with no cover on it, but you can see the brake mounts are significantly different.

On the Escape chaincase is there any difference besides the brake? Curious if they had a longer center to center distance or if they are just different where the brake caliper mounts

The center to center are the same reguardless if its a std RMK or a Vert Escape. The 03 also had a lite weight jack shaft not sure if this was carried on in 04 and 05. Also in 05 I don't believe the VE was offered but the Std RMK had a hoog poog of VE parts like the trailing arms think Polaris did this just becuase it was the final year of the edge and to streamlin production and get ride of parts inventory.

The standard chaincase and VE chaincase have a different sized hole where they center up and mount to the bulkhead. Otherwise center to center and even mounting hole locations were the same.
