Too much protein will lead to premature kidney failure by way of amyloidosis (systemic protein deposition), over filtration requirements, etc. The average young healthy person (male) can only use 40-50g/ day which is easily obtained in your diet. Food for thought...American urine is the most expensive in the world. True story.

"Most adults would benefit from eating more than the recommended daily intake of 56 grams, says Donald Layman, Ph.D., a professor emeritus of nutrition at the University of Illinois."

I'll listen to a doctor before I listen to someone who doesn't know what they are talking about. It is very healthy if you work out consistently to consume .5g of protein per pound of body weight. So since I weigh 160 I will continue consuming 80 grams of protein a day. This would be too much protein if I wasn't working out every day.

You are right. I quoted female recommendations. Male is 50-60. We have very limited prospective data on starvation and minimum requirements etc as it is unethical to test starvation. Much is anecdotal evidence. Also don't have prospective studies on long term (20+ years) protein levels. Lots of rat data...but...

Well, I have no hard data, but I think we can look at the body builders of the 70s-80s and we can guestimate what can happen. Most of them turned out ok besides the steroid abusers.

Why exactly would that be too much protein? And if you are working out every day I think you should be putting down more than .5g/lbm, but do not know what your workout consists of or what your goals are.

I'm not sure that if I wasn't working out my body would utilize all 80 grams and proteins can be turned into fat in the body if not used. Also, every day might be a stretch its usually about 5 times a week for around an hour or so.

Pretty much any calories that are in surplus get turned into fat. Doesnt matter if they are fat, carbs, or protein calories. I guess I have a different outlook on macros. Both protein and carbs are about 4 calories per gram. I have a pretty clean diet and if given the choice I choose to adjust my carb intake depending on my caloric needs since carbs are the more effective short term energy source and keep my protein at at least 1g/lbm.
