We are looking at trading up to a DP from our WW toyhauler. I am looking for information from peeps that own, or have owned DP's before and towed there enclosed with them.
What brand do/did you have?
What size engine?
Would you own it again?
Were you happy with the power, etc..

Any input would be appreciated.

Ive got a 95 monaco Dynasty 38ft with the cummins 330. We pull our 28ft enclosed with it. Works great as long as your prepared. Its the best way to experience sledding imo. Plus, you can pull a boat, etc in the summer. We just keep all our gear in it all winter long and it has worked well. Carry a torpedo heater, for frozen air lines. We pack a 2k honda gen to run the kids xbox, tv etc. Just have to fire the big one for the microwave, etc. We have had many good times in it.

Are your lines freezing in the basement? Or are they exposed?
Being 330hp, is that the Cat C-7?

How do you like the ride of the Monaco? We have been looking at a Cayman. The down side with it is, it only has the 5.9 ISB...

I have a 2002 Holiday Rambler Endeavor DST 40ft. It has the 330 Cummins with the Allison 6 speed. Sat TV, Air brakes, air ride, the whole deal. I mostly use mine for my work. Took out the front couches and made a display area. Sleep in my own bed instead of hotels, and eat my own food.

I have used mine for sledding as well. I have a 27ft enclosed and dont even know its back there. My basement is heated and the Genny keeps all electric topped off. I have put in a portable blue flame heater that I can use instead of the regular furnace. This saves on the battery power, and also uses alot less propane. Just crack a window and this lets out some of the moisture that builds up from the propane.

Depending on what size that you get just remember you will need alot longer stopping distance. Mine weighs in at 32,500. Then you have the sled trailer on top of that. Once one of these starts sliding you are just along for the ride. Drive slower and anticipate what other drivers may do. Longer stopping distances due to the weight on slick roads. I have yet to chain up.

I have really liked mine. There are a lot of good deals out there on new and used. I bought mine used with 10,000 on it, and it now has 65,000 in 2.5 years.

Nice Coach! I installed a Olympia catalytic heater in the Toy Hauler. Best thing I ever did to it.

Thanks for your input.

Uh.......although I have every dream of owning a Newell or Prevost, it is merely just that, a dream. That is one fantastic Coach! However, I do appreciate the info on the cold weather part. Definitely something I have to consider.

We have a 2003 Monaco Cayman with the 300 hp cummins and the 5 speed allison. We do tow a 3 placed enclosed and do camp weekends at a time. As for freezing up, well thats where Monaco may have come up a bit short. I have frozen up driving to a from, sitting over night etc etc etc. I do carry a space heater that warms up the compartment very quickly to resolve the issue within about 5 min. Monaco provided a cermaic compartment heater that just eats your batteries when in use and really does nothing. I have insulated the compartment with extra foam and that does seem to help, up until it gets below 15 degrees. Towing wise the above combo works really well and the fuel economy is not too bad (10mpg with trailer and 12 without)

I am glad you posted. We have actually looked at a Cayman, but I was hesitant about the power. How does yours do pulling grades fully loaded with the trailer in tow?
That is too bad about the freezing. I got a long spill about how Monaco adds that space heater just to make sure you dont freeze. Do you have the heater mats on the tanks like they told me they do to them?

Honest answer about the grades and pulling, its not too bad. You have to figure its a 5.9 Cummins. It really does well and I have had really no issues other then freezing up. We have 16,000 miles on it and it really has been a pleasure to own. So as for the tank heaters, well as far as I know part of the basement heat system that we have does include tank pads. We like I said earlier do carry an extra space heater that really works well to thaw things out quickly.

Not sure what year unit you are looking at but if it the 2003 model year, well let me know because there is an Onan generator issue that you will enjoy fixing over and over again.

In fact we are heading to Idaho with Motorhome and sleds for Turkey Day and we are really looking forward to it. We head to Vegas for Nascar every year and tow nothing and frankly for a 34 ft motorhome it flat out gets with it.

.

Hahaha. I tend to like doing things twice, or three times...not!:D Is it an Onan deal, or a Monaco?

Thanks for all your input!

Oh well it is an Onan issue, they decided to install biodegradable rubber hoses inside the generator. I am on my 3rd set of hoses and lets just say I hope its the last.

Any other info you would like, let me know

Beautiful Coach Fordman. Have you had any issues with the cold? Do you mind listing the powertrain?
