Did your Weekend suck as bad as mine?

Spent the weekend away under my Dad's house in Illinois replacing old plumbing pipes broke because the well pipe broke sprayin water everywhere and freezing everything up .

Finished Sunday morning about 2 AM and went to airport unclean cause the plane left at 5AM and when I got there it was cancelled because of freezing rain.

Finally arrived home to find out I had no ride home because my friends and family went to the cabin with 2 feet of new snow. First snow of the season.

You goit to play with tractors in a swamp ... I got to play with ice,mud and sewage under a house.

Was the air clean?

No there wasn't much to groom, we were simply packing the swamps and cat tails so riders will follow the actual trail instead of going every which way to Sunday.

In the woods and some hay fields would be good to go over but it's not worth taking the drag behind it that's for sure.

Laying mats out was horrible and very time consuming. The water gets on top of the mat and becomes like a skating rink for the excavator. He was a dam good operator though, most of the time we didn't even need to hook up the chain, he did it all from the cab.

Same in my area not much ice, but a good foot and a half of snow. My clutch was supposed to be rebuilt for the this weekend and it didnt happen. Luckily i was able to ride my dads sled for the weekend. All that snow and didnt even get to break out the ol RMK!

We came home with three (3) smashed sleds. Two Revs and a NEW (50km) XP. If we had cell service, we would have choppered one guy out due to a back injury.

Yeah, we had a crappy weekend too!

you guys like the tucker better than a bombi? i would think the bombi has better floatation, with the wider longer tracks.

One of the biggest misconceptions out there.

We measured it all out at a groomer show last winter. The standard track Tucker set up on a Model 2000 (normal size Tucker) has less PSI on the ground then any of the pisten bully's and bombi's/camoplasts/prinoth's that are used for trail grooming.

If you compare it to a ski hill cat then it's a different story but the trail groomers are basically 26-30" wide tracks by how ever long. Remember to look at what's on the ground, not what the side profile is. Both twin trackers have a sprocket at the back that doesn't not come in contact with the ground meaning the effective length of the track is much, much shorter then what meets the eye.

Tucker PSI on the long tracks (one's I'm most familiar with is .9psi)

Oof Da. ;) Could you drive it off that bog w/o burying it again?? Might be some of that here in Crow Wing Cn'ty, dunno, but we have a county trail meeting tonite, I may hear war stories.

Drove it off fine due to us packing it the night before like a 6 lane interstate. It did drop one track down again but I was able to back out of that one and make a little zig zag to get around it.

Minnesota

how many years has it been when it was even a consideration to bring the groomers out before January?

We do it every year like most clubs to do just what we did (minus the sinking). If the swamps don't get packed with something the sleds will NOT go though it and they will go any place they can to go around. Yes, they will go right through people's front yards if they have to. It's a mess and it's one of the very reasons why we loose more trail then we gain.

Packing swamps and so on is just part of the business, pulling the drag to make things smooth is the end result of a lot more hard work before and afterwards that no one ever thinks about.

THAT SUCKS,

why is the groomer out? there isnt anysnow
letem right every way to sunday it got to be cheaper than all that.

Not cheaper then loosing all the trails in this area for good. That would not be good and it's a lot closer to happening then anyone can imagine.

I have seen sleds go through a neighborhood at 2am one night when I was blocking the trail doing some brush work so I could make it through. I'm not kidding, that's how bad it is around this area. Too many just don't care and figure what the heck, I'll just do what I want.

yep..:(..did you tear up anything ??

Nah, just my reputation for not ever getting wet while grooming. 17 or 18 years down the drain.

It was a fairly straight forward rescue but it's going to be costly I'm sure. A day and a 1/2 of excavator time, 3 employees and a slew of other worker bee's that I'm sure weren't doing it on volunteer time like I was.

I would have to say, NO! My weekend didn't suck as bad as yours! You would have to try pretty hard to top your weekend!

Learned something today. Never knew you packed swamps.
