Did I mention: I really like my vest!

Tekvest/AviVest

Holy Balls the new tek vest (we are calling it the Impact AviVest) just got out of prototyping and it looks sweet!!

We are very excited.

Details and pics to come......

I am also very interested in the product mentioned above. Sounds to me like an instant winner if it's done well. When can we expect more details? Thanks.

We just got back from Jackson Hole, Wyoming where we showed a few people in the snowmobile industry both the next generation 2011 AviVest and the Impact AviVest. The Impact Avivest is a stripped down version of the AviVest with protective plates, no pockets up front, and a few other things that make it snowmobile rider friendly. Everybody we showed it to was pumped. We are going to decide on some pictures to post here soon, as soon as we finalize the design.

The next generation 2011 AviVest put smiles on people's faces as well. The AviVest has a lot more pockets than the Impact AviVest and is made from different fabrics. Some new colors we are trying really went over well, so we are excited.

On another note, we finally finished up our snowmobile seat flotation prototype and HOPE to test it in a slide this coming winter. The large avalanche air bag is housed inside the snowmobile seat, and is tethered to the snowmobile tunnel. The device is deployed by pulling a rip cord between your legs after you have activated your AviVest or your Impact AviVest. The device inside the seat will deploy and stop your snowmobile from spinning and cartwheeling down the mountain, destroying itself and maybe injuring the rider as it rolls downhill. The avalanche airbag will also keep your machine on top of the snow, so you can start it and use it to get out of the mountains instead of digging for it. We have already floated 2 separate snowmobiles in big avalanches using avalanche air bags (see video on our site), but this new prototype is built into the seat and is rider deployed.

We will post pics of the Impact AviVest soon, and you can already see the AviVest pics on our website.

Any updates? I don't see the impact vest on your site yet. Are the impact vests only going to be available from you this year, or will they be available through your dealers?

This. I am in the market for an airbag, but I'm not a fan of backpacks, please let us know, I need to make a purchase before the snow flies!

This years production run of the AviVest is almost complete, and we hope to have them available on the web site www.AviVest.com soon.

The Impact AviVest prototype is on a road trip through western Canada right now, and people are telling us they really like it. It's definitely a stripped down version of the AviVest with no front pockets and a protective plate, but riders in BC and Alberta we showed it to were stoked.

We probably won't have more than a few dozen of these made until we get any possible kinks in the design worked out, so you can probably look for the Impact AviVest next season, as well as an AviPack backpack model of our device.

Hey Guys, will you have pockets on the production impact vest? That is one of my favorite aspects of the vest.... the pockets for my little gear.

On the Avi Vest website it says that "after use with inflation" do not reuse and call or email the manufacturer.
Competitor products show the user how to repack the bag for reuse when the cylinder is properly refilled.
Are you looking for feedback on the vest before providing instructions?
Is the bag repacked by the user?
Thanks.
Trying to narrow my choices down.

The Avi Vest is also a 22 liter pack.
It can be repacked/reused/refilled.
Tony, sorry, no pockets on the front of the impact vest.
Website pics coming soon.

So being a vest that you wear, does it trap moisture? After wearing KLIM gear for a while I'm sold on the waterproof breathable thing. With this vest on top will it still work?

Our goal is that the AviVest will not trap moisture.

Also, demand has been so great for the Impact AviVest that we are building several hundred for the season, not several dozen.

Repacking is quite simple and takes only a few minutes. Once you have deflated your avalanche air bag (using a tool provided) you will see the creases in the fabric which will allow you to easily repack and replace the air bag. Then you unzip a side pocket to expose the air cylinder. You unscrew the used bottle and a large plastic cap on the metal cylinder head. Then you use a small pin tool (included) to reset the cylinder head before you screw everything back together with a refilled or a second bottle. To get a refill you will have to take it to your local snowmobile dealer who can either refill your bottle or swap it out for a filled bottle they already have on site.

You can also order a second filled bottle with your AviVest or Impact AviVest, which allows you to avoid going to the dealer the minute you’ve used your system.

However, if you are involved in an avalanche and use your system we recommend you leave it inflated until you get safely out of the mountains. You can continue to snowmobile with a deployed AviVest or Impact AviVest. Because of its design and placement, the air bag will not impede your peripheral or side vision, and the bag moves out of your field of vision when you look back over your shoulder. If you’ve been in a slide then you have demonstrated there is an avalanche danger so leave your air bag inflated, count your blessings and head for home to ride another day.

In our research involving live avalanche tests of avalanche air bags, a fully inflated air bag is also easier for rescuers to spot after the slide, and is easier to dig around than a deflated air bag. Having these devices deflate in order to create a snow cave or a breathing space does not work due to the shoulder blade placement of the device. The inflated air bag is also preventing about 100 pounds or more of snow from falling in on top of the victim, and the tight inflated walls are great for guiding a shovel along the side of.

I'm glad to see your going to produce more than just a few of the impact vests. I really want one and will be getting one as soon as they are available.

Howver I really hope the impact vest has pockets as that is one of the draws to the avi vest.. Example read Tony's original post..
Heres to hoping..

Awesome job Wari its looking great.

My experiences with mine compared to my old ABS bag were similar. Both tend to stay tight on my back. I don't remember either one being any wetter/sweatier than the other. No point loading straps with the vest. I got warm in both. With the vest I kick off a layer and stay real comfortable. Of couse most of my riding with the vest was sunny spring days....should have been sweating my arse off but don't remember that to be the case. Seemed pretty comfortable....I guess it musta been breathing a little somewhere. I'll sure know more this winter, cause it's going with me on every ride.

Hey Wari,
The vest is all about pockets. I love that aspect. I don't have to undo a backpack to get any of my gear(camera, spot, gps, etc) Maybe next year you can build a hybrid, light impact with pockets.....I'll be ready!

Hey Dusty,
Come on over and try mine on. It's amazing how much adjustment it has. It's only a medium and we had it fitting Jeff really nicely or me, or Tom. I have no doubt it would fit you with only a slight little adjustment. Call me dude!

I ride for avy vest and i can truly say that it is the most comfy thing i have worn in the industry. Will and the guys at avy vest have a awsome product. i am looking forward to the new inpact avy vest it will be a huge hit in the freeride community.
thanks alot avi-vest
you have made freeriding safer and comfy

thanks shane

Is there anywhere to see these yet? Are you going to be at the idaho show in november? If so will you be selling any there or will you just have one for display?

I got to see Will and the new avivests at the SLC show last Saturday.

They had the impact vest and an improved avi vest. The impact vest is pretty easy to get on. It just opens up and goes over your head like a sign board. Then velcro and strap the sides and your done. Pretty nice. It was slightly long for my stumpy torso, but I'm thinking it will fit regular folks just fine.

The standard avivest has way less straps and an improved zipper. It has two nice big pockets instead of four smaller pockets. The material is pretty nice and I'm told the whole vest is a aprox 1# lighter. It sized a bit differently and fits closer to what the tag says. My original vest has more adjustability but ya pay for it by having all the adjustment straps hanging all over. The new vest is clean and simple. It also has some external straps in the back to hold shovel handles and other things that might be a little too long for the interior. Nice improvements!

Did I mention: "I really like my vest"
