Did a few little mods what do you think of the plug color

Sled is an 05 summit x 800ho. comp is 150-155 in each hole @ running temp.

I put on a CPI can. Ceramic coated stock pipe, 1/4" reed spacers, VF3's, 800r air box, and t-stat delete.

the sleds stock jetting with everything but the 800r air box was rich, plugs were black all the time, i was told the 800r box was good for 2-3hp so i figured why not try it out? I was told to drop the mains 1-2 sizes and let it buck.

Well i went down 1 size on the mains and added a .010 shim on the needle just to be safe and my plugs looked way lean? almost a grey color, so i went back to stock mains. the plugs looked a little better but still on the lean side i thought. so i went up 1 size and now i think they look a little better but i wanted your guys thoughts. idk what it is but this sled is way harder to read the plugs right than my last one.

here is a few pics, these are from all throttle ranges not just wot btw:

Here is some good reading for you.

thanks for that was some kool info in there.

I underestand how to read plugs thats not the isue though, these plugs, or plug oil/combo somthing is just weird? the plug looks rich everywhere except for the top 1/2-1/3 of the ground where its almost white, thats what i didnt understand? there isnt really a gradual change or anything goes from black to light tan instantly.

my egts at wot were only 1150 range, and like all doo 800's i had a lean spot in the mids where it was coming up close to 1250.

thanks again,
-Jesse

Looks about right to me.....but with that being an "overall" read, I would do one at full throttle, another in mid range to get a better feel for things.

From the looks of the pic's it looks good, I'd agree. On first impression, I thought the plugs might be too new to get an accurate read, probably just the light?.

I run Jack Harris Power-Jets, they are a great tuning tool. We've been getting enough snow here at home to ride so I've had a chance to doo some tuning(break in) of the 840HO the last couple rides here at 2k', had to raise the needles one notch, but everything else is 1/4 turn on the power-jets. When I go west to ride, I close the power-jets and let the 270 mains do their thing, a 1/4 turn here or there depending on cond. (1/4 turn= 1 main jet size). Last spring I burned down my mag side cyl. while packing a guy in after his sled broke down, we rode prolly 5-6 mi., running low on gas, getting colder, unloaded extra rider, bought a jug of unknown quality gas for sled, and detonated the mag piston all to he!!. I was running 260 mains, trying to get to 1200-1250 egt's, think I was on the lean side of the a/f ratio curve (bell shaped temp range, according to Snow-Tech article a few years ago). Anyway, all alcohol induced rambling aside,:beer;:D, my point being, install a set of Jack Harris Power-
Jets (not neccessarily his in particular, just the brass needle valves) on your carbs and enjoy great adjustability. There are a few guys on this forum that are dealers for this power-jet, around $35 ea. Just saw a couple guys post their availability yesterday.

Reading the wash on your pistons is a better way of diagnosing your mixture. When I rode a 700, was pretty decent to see with the fiber optic flashlight tool. Haven't been able to see much the last couple years, prolly don't have the right light. Is very helpful to see the wash from the intake and transfer ports, sets the mind at ease when certain gas or oils don't give you a good read on the electrode. If electrode is showing a tinge of white that's on the verge of lean, instead of the ground, isn't it?

I think your right on that one but any grey anywhere on it scares me lol. What i was taught was your sapose to have a ring of light tan around the top of the electrode, half the ground tan, and the top of the ceramic tan. any more than that and your pushing it, any white/grey your going to be introuble soon.

just what ive always been told, thanks for the input!

Does the Air Box out of a 800r really increase horses?...
Well between my cpi can, ceramic pipe, 1/4" spacers, vf3's (wich im sure didnt do anything) and the 800r box i added 3.5g of pin weight and im still overreving to 8200 on my avenger? So my guess would be they all did a little bit?-Jesse
