DET codes and Boondockers boost on Pro

I know, there's another thread going....But I wanted to start one specific to this issue.

Anyway, I now have four rides on my Assault w/ the pumpgas kit (800 miles before turbo install). She's drinking 100LL avgas..numbers are:

40 40 50
50 58 53

those are per BD's most recent update. Most riding @ 8-11k'...8.5lb of boost

First ride pulled DET codes all day running BD's rec 2 gal 110, 8 gal 91....figgered it might be the fuel and switched to the LL. That cleaned it up a ton, but was still getting the DET fairly often.

Added venting- helped
Added more venting- helped a lot more

So, at this point my conclusion is that these codes are rolling due to under-hood temps. I can ride for quite a while at 3/4 to WOT w/o a code. But, once snow packs in the vents and the motor is under load- bing: DET.

I guess my question is: what's everyone else doing about this? Once the intercooler's available I have a feeling that the problem will be solved. But what until then?

no det codes. running awesome. did it first day. Sometimes under load and sometimes not. Changed numbers and hasn't done it since. Running 3-4 gal of av at 9000 feet.

I'd like to hear what the charge tube temps are (not the airbox temps)???

104 MON ... 100LL... and you are still getting Detonation that high up??

IF this is an accurate picture of their intake design under the hood, and they are not running an after-cooler my first thought is one is going to see some high IAT readings. Does the intake tube extend up into the head light hole?
Heat rises and the intake creates a low psi this would result in sucking the hot air in the engine bay. Going to be worse without venting obviously. Has one measured the IAT's with this sysem? IAT's are a crucial part of forced induction systems.
Thanks, Cam-shaft.

Don't have IAT #'s...but they must be high. I'll admit I'm a novice w/ the boost, but a fairly acceptable wrencher otherwise. And my gut says it's heat, heat, heat (although for the perfect tune, I know there's more to it.) My first day w/ the set-up, which as stated, was the worst, also happened to be a warmer day w/ about 30f temps.

I have no idea why these manufacturers don't extend the intake all the way out of the engine compartment. I dread messing w/ it for fear of jacking up the spec'd airflow......but it sure would be nice to pull that cold air from outside.

Hopefully, there's a solution that doesn't include race fuel. The wallet can handle avgas, not so much c112.

This has very little to do with intake or charge temps my charge temps on the Pro are much lower then the Dragon without the intercooler 155-170 on 7.5lbs this lower charge temp was achieved with not only the 3rd injector but the design of the airbox. Yes the intercooler will help and there has been allot of work and R&D going on there as well it takes allot of testing.

But it has everything to do with the Programing. I have the fix please Email me at snowjw3090@yahoo.com I have wrote up a set of instructions I can Fwd you. All that is needed is to change a simple C2 setting to a C1 will take you about 5 min of your time and as Terry said no DET issues had a customer run his in larmie on a 3 Gal race mix with ethanol without issue on this setting. I have over 400 miles on this setting as well. So far to date this is the most crisp and fastest spooling turbo I have been on. Next weekend I will report back with some high boost reports right now I am waiting on A-Arms as Polaris was out of stock and my aftermarket arms are on the way.

Also I will keep others posted on here but there is some new things in the works lets just say Jarred has been working his *** off with BD's electrical engineer to and how does just a splash of race on 10lbs sound at 6000ft without an intercooler.

170 IAT @ 7.5lbs of boost? Cooling the air charge with a 3rd injector? Is that what you are saying?

Thanks just trying to figure out your theory.

Yes that is the charge temps I am seeing it all depends on the day how long we are WOT but that is a good 4 ride average another reason I like the BD's system so I can watch the temps.

The airbox has allot to do with the temps but the 3rd injector and were it is located helps allot.

I just got off the phone with Jr the new 3D program is out and boxes can be sent it. I next day aired our 2 boxes to BD and got it back today the new program is even more user friendly yet it's just a very simple setup. On the old program I had it dialed in perfect after I changed the C1 setting back in Dec but this new program and setup allows for a wider boost ranges, more power, better fuel economy, and more user friendly setup did I mention more power and boost!!

Even today just playing around it had no problem spinning the 74gram weights we put in it all on Jared's pre-programed numbers I will give a report when we get some good miles on it this weekend.

From BD's website

3D parameter programming on the Pro RMK now available
We are excited to announce our new 3 parameter programming for the Boondocker Control Box, available for the Pro RMK. (Previous control box setting ran on a 2 parameter bases) This new upgrade allows you to program your fuel injection based on Throttle position, RPM and Boost greatly increasing the ability to fine tune your machine for ultimate performance. Using the 3 parameters the control box allows you to set your exact desired fuel injection, the ultimate in fine tuning.

If you already have a control box and want this upgrade simply send in your control box to Boondocker with your desired return address. We will re-program and return within the same day. Boondocker will cover return ground shipping cost however faster shipping is available at your own cost.

Justin, got your email about the C-1/C-2 settings change, but Jared had me send the box back in for 3D programming before I could mess with it. Just wanted to say thanks, anyways though.
Also, do you happen to know if Kits that are shipping now, will come with the 3d Programming already in the box? I have 2 more kits that should show up beginning of next week.

Installed the new box and it's killing it. I had to take a little fuel out from mid and hi at 5k rpms on up as well as lowered some of the decel #'s to get it perfectly clean. But WOW! Now she's rippin.

Only running 8lbs on 100LL. Will check out 10lbs tomorrow.
