Deputy will cost King County 25 Million

I'm done responding to these threads after this. I am not even going to watch the video. Most people wouldn't make it a year in this profession, but so many Monday night quarterback. Most people really have no idea that we wade in the sewer day after day and when we get attention from the people we protect it is usually something like this. We get attacked often, we get spit upon, we pick up an abused kid and take him to the hospital and try to show what love we can, we go into tweakers homes full of needles and kids living in their own feces, we arrest child molestors and rapists, we arrest guys that have just stabbed their wife and kid, we arrest a woman that has just killed her 4 year old, etc., etc. We do our best to keep predators away from you and your families. If you hate cops, what do you propose? Anarchy?

Right now in my career I am pretty burned out. You can only take so much of this attitude (the people that you protect hating you). My own father has this attitude because my brothers have been in trouble. It is hard and frankly it hurts. I still do my job, but not with the passion I once did. I have lost 1 friend to a bad guy and another shot (lost his finger as a result). I have almost been ran over twice. I have been stabbed in the thigh. I have squoze the trigger of my weapon countless times....so close to taking someone's life. Do you want to be in my shoes deciding whether or not to take someone's life in split seconds? I have been spit upon. I have had feces thrown at me. I have been called nasty names by little children. So many cops dive into the depths of hell to help, but almost never a thanks. I have been thanked a handful of times. Once was because I recovered a 10,000 dollar necklace of some Californian woman. I have recovered countless stolen cars and not one victim in court has said thanks.

I have been entertaining the idea of switching careers in the past year. I have taken an easier investigative job, because I am tired of risking myself and family on the street. My family, meaning if I get fired for the use of force and get sued...how do I provide for my sons? I definitely don't do this line of work for the cash. I would love to have a nice new Duromax and a 2010 sled. Instead I drive an older Chevy and ride an 04 Polaris. I am not asking for attention here....yes there are rogue cops out there.....but just think twice before you say you hate cops and judge them. Many of them are a$$es, but those walls are there for a reason....self preservation.

This is a very good post MPS, and I commend you for your service. I would not do your job for any salary, and thankfully I can sleep a little easier at night because there are people like you that will.

In my encounters with police, both adversarial and co-operational, I have been treated excellently more often than not. However, the times that I have been treated like a common scum-bag for no reason are the encounters that tend to stick in my memory. Unfortunately, this is why many upstanding people harbor disrespect for police in general. Your post gives me some more insight as to how this can happen. It sounds like you are one of the good ones, hopefully you find a new line of work before burn out turns you.

MPS, great post! Keep up the hard work! There are a ton of people in this country that respect what you do and admire it. I am sure your two boys really look up to their dad and aspire to be just like you. Stand on your morals and do not let the nay sayers dicate your thought process.

I thank you for your service to our country and your service as a LEO. :beer;

Thanks Super B and Duffman...I really didn't want to get attention, but thanks. The next time you see a cop....for better or for worse, tell him thanks and you will see a tough exterior melt away. If it doesn't, then I will agree...he is a douche.

MPS...thank you for a thankless job.

Good to Go...I agree 100%.

Blu Du...crawl back under your rock...there is usually a reason people hate cops...and it has NOTHING to do with the cops.

THis particular officer has already been cleared of ANY wrong doing by the investigating committee...this is a civil suit.

Officers who showed up on the scene of a stabbing were met by a woman who positively ID'd the victim, who then ran when the cops told him to stop...based on the info available to them, I think the cops did exactly what they were trained to do and what we pay them to do...to KEEP THE PUBLIC SAFE.

Here is a copy of my latest negative rep from Blu Douche:

Deputy will cost King... 08-27-2009 05:28 PM Blu Du pos cop you are

See, this is the type of person we deal with and then people wonder why we are not overly happy on every contact. Douche, sorry you got arrested and blame your troubles on the PoPo. The funny thing is, cops get blamed for little man syndrome all the time, but usually it's the little man who has a problem with authority. Right Douche, are you a "little man?" Now put a band-aide on your papercut Douche!

Bull****! There is no justification to basically end that guys life just because he wasn't cooperating with police.

Yeah, because you can totally tell the officer TRIED TO KILL HIM! Get a clue! In these situations the outcome is not always going to be the desired one!

You know what, I think in every football game where someone gets injured during a tackle they should sue the tackler! Or charge him criminally! Because obviously the tackler would be trying to INJURE or KILL the oponent!

If your wife was the one stabbed, and this was actually the bad guy and he didn't get hurt, you'd wish he was hurt worse. But because of the outcome and because you have nothing invested in this case you want to damn the cop! Go back to your fairytale life.

Yep another government agency hard at work. That right there says "serve and protect" And to think we have military personel in prison because they made the terrorists do a nudie pyramid, and police doing $hit like this to citizens, he still is a citizen right until proven guilty WTF? And agreed one bad apple does not make a bad bushel, but it does start to taint the bushel.

The intent was to sopt the person and end the pursuit and get the person in custody.

It is no different than when an office is pursuing a fleeing motorist and the order is given to do a PITS maneuver. The fleeing car sometimes goes out of control rolls over and the perp gets seriously hurt or killed for that matter.

The intent here was to get the person under control.

I highly doubt the officer was thinking: ' Hey, I bet I can do some serious damage to this guy if I "check" him into the wall. I bet I can make this guy brain dead if I do this'

Sorry for this guy that this happened, but he should have not run.........

I am not a cop, but I do have very close friends that are. The number one thing they tell me is that the first thing you do in a situation like this is to get the person 100% under control and as quickly as possible.

I bet the family loses this case........And they should

Agreed 100%. Great Post Jeff!:beer;

i dont have any friends that are cops so, my opinion is not biased..

people only hate cops til they need them..

anyone that runs from the cops deserves what they get.. he knocked the guy down, he didnt knock him down and start beating him. that would be a different story..

as said above, cops deserve respect, they do a job that most of us wouldnt do especially for the minimal amount they get paid..

:beer; for the cops..
