Deputy will cost King County 25 Million

MPS These actions are the reason alot of people hate cops, I know they are not all this out of control but they had better start cleaning up from within the departments. This is the third incident in this area in the last few months
where police have taken inadaquate actions causing a fatality. I have allways supported the law enforcement personell knowing how tough their job can be, my favorite niece is one of the most decorated seargents in the Long Beach California police department. With that said I have a fear the law enforcement community is becomming more thugish and may not have the best interests of the american people at heart, it seems the liberal marxist attidudes are wearing off on them. Swampy:eek::(

I work with a number of agencies and without a doubt they have a thankless job more often than not.

Unfortunately, this is also an example of the usual ego/attitude of their abuse of power, whether it be physically or with a pen. If you are not in their sights for whatever they have in their mind, then they are nice and cordial, but if theres even a slim chance they need or want to do "business" with you, watch out.

He's not looking at the cop the shoves him. It looks more like another cop was chasing him from behind, he slowed down when he thought he out ran him, then the cop in the video got him from the side.

Video is too short and not there's not enough info to make a call on this one. A couple boot stomps or knight stick to the head after he was down and I'd be there.

Everybody has a thankless job I think.Cops need to get it together.

Well then why did he run? Obviously hiding something??

Maybe a little aggressive, but if he wouldnt have hit the wall then he maybe would have had a few scrapes and bruises at most and this probably wouldnt have even been an issue. I can probably say that I dont think the outcome was intentional, hind sight is always 20/20.

The cop may have went over the top, but put yourself in his shoes. I know if I was a cop and was going to take someone down that could have a knife on him I wouldn't pull any punches. Plus if someone runs from a cop, then in my mind they have something to hide, or they know they've done something wrong.

On a different note I was out with a couple of DoD cops this morning when they were going through defensive baton training. There are only 2 strikes allowed when using a baton, and you can not aim for the head, neck, groin, or any joints. That pretty much leaves the lower arm or the thigh. Anything else and they can go to jail for defending themselves.

I think the real problem is that no one stopped to think about the officer in this case. If you use a taser or spray or any other device in this situation to stop the suspect you are going to jail. That means the only way to stop him is to take him down. If he doesn't put him down, then a suspect can #1 get away, and/or #2 continue the chase putting himself, civilians, and the officers in further danger.

Dammed if you do, Dammed if you dont. I feel for both sides here, I seriously doubt that the cop was trying to put the guy in a coma.

Exactly - if you're going to run from the authorities be prepared to pay the consequences. I would not make a good cop I guess. Lack of respect is what it boils down to.

The guy was instantly unresponsive, and the cop jerked him around like a limp rag doll. I'd say someone had a case of little mans syndrone.

I agree.

I understand that they have a job to do, but even when seeing episodes of "Cops", it's sometimes hard to watch what I see as excessive force on some of the takedowns.

The cop should have had better situational awareness. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that someone is going head first into a wall after a hit like that. Like everything else, your tactics need to change with the situation and conditions. I would like to hear the rest of the story though.

I don't know what some of you are watching, but there ain't nothing in that vid that is out of line.

It makes a chit bit of difference whether it's the correct suspect or not. With the info that they had, he was the one they wanted to stop. He ran, and that my friends, makes it a felony take down...they were investigating a STABBING.

So let me ask all you know it all, cop hater, have all the answers, give the guy all the money (by the way, in case you forgot, which you clearly did, it's YOUR money they are going to give away)... What would YOU do, and insure that you could still safely go home to YOUR family at the end of your shift...?

"Oh, excuse me sir, I know you're running an all, and might have a knife, and of course not really want to go to prison, but could you just stand there for a second...yes, I'll get you a chair...while I check this out...Thanks"

Tackle was good, circumstances didn't turn out great. After the guy was on the ground, it was a quick and smooth cuff job, no beating, no extra hits, just quick and business like. WTH else does everyone else want?

I HATE bad police work, dirty cops, piss poor attitudes. But I despise arm chair quarterbacking and back stabbing from know it all pet rock morons who have an agenda because they had a bad experience once or some stupid friggen excuse that's probably self inflicted from previously making bad choices.

25 million..... Horse chit. Your TAXES just went up. All because the kid was to friggen STUPID to STOP. What a novel concept.

I have a freind that is a Sheriff and hear of the "genius' " he deals with on a regular basis, and put his life in danger - he says the same thing - don't run and I won't be forced to drive your face into the pavement WHEN I catch you !! Should not have ran - it is as cut and dried as that!!

I'm done responding to these threads after this. I am not even going to watch the video. Most people wouldn't make it a year in this profession, but so many Monday night quarterback. Most people really have no idea that we wade in the sewer day after day and when we get attention from the people we protect it is usually something like this. We get attacked often, we get spit upon, we pick up an abused kid and take him to the hospital and try to show what love we can, we go into tweakers homes full of needles and kids living in their own feces, we arrest child molestors and rapists, we arrest guys that have just stabbed their wife and kid, we arrest a woman that has just killed her 4 year old, etc., etc. We do our best to keep predators away from you and your families. If you hate cops, what do you propose? Anarchy?

Right now in my career I am pretty burned out. You can only take so much of this attitude (the people that you protect hating you). My own father has this attitude because my brothers have been in trouble. It is hard and frankly it hurts. I still do my job, but not with the passion I once did. I have lost 1 friend to a bad guy and another shot (lost his finger as a result). I have almost been ran over twice. I have been stabbed in the thigh. I have squoze the trigger of my weapon countless times....so close to taking someone's life. Do you want to be in my shoes deciding whether or not to take someone's life in split seconds? I have been spit upon. I have had feces thrown at me. I have been called nasty names by little children. So many cops dive into the depths of hell to help, but almost never a thanks. I have been thanked a handful of times. Once was because I recovered a 10,000 dollar necklace of some Californian woman. I have recovered countless stolen cars and not one victim in court has said thanks.

I have been entertaining the idea of switching careers in the past year. I have taken an easier investigative job, because I am tired of risking myself and family on the street. My family, meaning if I get fired for the use of force and get sued...how do I provide for my sons? I definitely don't do this line of work for the cash. I would love to have a nice new Duromax and a 2010 sled. Instead I drive an older Chevy and ride an 04 Polaris. I am not asking for attention here....yes there are rogue cops out there.....but just think twice before you say you hate cops and judge them. Many of them are a$$es, but those walls are there for a reason....self preservation.

very sad to watch that. i truely hate cops.

You know what Du, we hate you too.

That being said, I truly feel for the family of this guy in this case. BUT, I truly feel for the officer as well. I can only imagine what he is going through right now. His information at the time was someone had just robbed a store and at least 3 people were bloodied or stabbed from the incident. A lady points this guy out and he runs. Cops chase him, ends here. The video of course chops off the part where he throws something. Then he gets pushed, yes pushed HARD.

The outcome is tough. But, ask your wife this question. If I was the officer in this situation and this was the actual bad guy which I'm sure everyone can agree that it appeared he was, would you want me to ease into an arrest or take this person by surprise so I maintain the upper hand? Sure, there might have been other things he could have done, but we don't know the whole story. Would your wife want you to risk getting stabbed?

I can relate to MPS. I've been in many shoot/don't shoot situations. The sad thing is almost every time I'm in that situation there is a split second where I think of my wife and family going through a lawsuit and my house getting taken away. That split second may cost me my life some day, hopefully not.

Many people think that we cover for our own, etc. Some day I will tell you the ordeal I am currently going through and it just might make you think differently. I can't comment on it because it's ongoing and has been for 1 1/2 years. But it has been hell on me and my family and it has been absolutely uncalled for. When you hear it some day even J-Fly would agree it's uncalled for.

This cop bashing gets so old. Blu Du probably has an office job and the worst thing he has to worry about is a paper cut. I don't mean to disrespect people who work in the corporate field, I just get so tired of this cop bashing. Especially in respect to what I'm currently going through. You just have no idea...

If you're going to run from the cops, you deserve to get stomped. Bunch of PHUKKIN PUZZIES in the world anymore. If you think that's excessive, you've never been in a fight. It gets so old listening to people who "hate" cops. You always hate them until you need them. They put their lives on the line every day for nowhere near enough compensation. Very similar to a soldier in the military.

the title of this post doesn't jive with the story in the link

you post it as if it's already gone thru court and been decided, just because the family makes a claim doesn't mean they'll get it.

I can't watch the vid due to firewall, but from what I read in the story it sounds like the whole thing will get thrown out and the officer will be cleared....except it'll fk him from doing his duty for a long long time and cost him severe hardship personally going thru the whole mess. Might even force him to look for other work taking a potentially good officer off the streets.

I don't hate cops and most are outstanding people. Some though are absolute pricks. But it's like that in every proffesion. Cops just catch more heat than others. Ever dealt with bankers. Most are great and then there is one who is a prick and tries to stick it to everyone he can. Same with teachers, parts shops, port of entries, the list could go on forever some people are pricks. But it doesn't make all of them bad.
