Denali HD vs King Ranch Super Duty....................

Dodge has A/C seats, heated wheel, heated rear seats as well. Dodge uses Uconnect which is very similar to Fords Sync set-up. So you get Nav,Mp3, USB port, satellite radio and more. As for GMC OnStar had 2 trucks with it before never used it stopped paying for the subscription as well, be useful if a vehicle got stollen but never had that. The Dodge Longhorn uses a different leather that is top notch, actually had a tag on my seat explaining about were the leather had come from and the unique pattern and stress each seat has. All nice trucks tho some people find different thing important and have different taste, all three offer luxury heavy dutys I'd have no problem driving any of them.

What package/option? I couldn't find those options on the Dodge Ram site.

Onstar has changed significantly over the last few years. The remote start through your phone is pretty cool. Think about it this way.

You're snowmobiling it's getting dark, you're on your way back to the parking area. You pull out your phone, hit the start button. The truck will pre charge the glow plugs and then start when ready. It runs about 10-15 minutes. You get back to the truck and it is now warmed up, ready to go. Pull the sled on the trailer tie it down, strip off your wet, frozen gear and drive away.

I know a lot of guys that travel at the airport. They love that feature. Plane touches down, start the vehicle in cold airport parking lot. Heater automatically comes on, heated seats come on. They get to baggage pickup, it's been 10-15 minutes they start it again. By the time they get out to their vehicle it's defrosted warm and ready to go. No scraping windshields in the cold after a long trip.

My Laramie LongHorn as all those but I added upgraded stereo (has a sub under rear seat) and Navigation, not sure if the regular Laramie has all those. The stitched seat is cool in the longhorn but can get it without as well.

For sure its cool, wish my command start had range like that. GMC just needs to advance some control comforts and get a set-up like Sync or Uconnect for interior controls. I remember when we where blown away by heated seats in a truck now there just crazy with options. Don't need an SUV anymore to be comfortable on long road trips.

GM has intellalink. Honestly it works better than sync. Buick, then gmc terrain both already have it. Enclave and Acadia will get it in 2013 with their new generation. I am 99.9% sure the Sierra lineup will get it in 2014 with their new generation.

Honestly for a monocolor setup on the Sierra that stereo headunit is very capable. Bluetooth connectivity with voice commands, USB connectivity for iPods, iPhone and droid.

The navigation unit takes voice commands as well.

The Intellalink will have more voice commands for radio tuning, playing songs, streaming music through pandora, albulm art displayed, stitcher radio service, live weather, live traffic, ability to view video and photos from USB devices, visual setup of vehicle features, lighting, climate control, etc.

Looking forward to the 2014 GMC release for sure probably only be in the 1500 first see the heavy duty in 2015 my guess.

Laramie Longhorn FTW!!! Haha! Honestly when talking about spending that kind of coin you have to drive all 3. I don't for even one second believe that the allison is any better than the current 68rfe in the dodge. Don't really know anything about the ford. The only thing that the bowties have over everyone else is onstar... and that just depends if its important to a person or not.

I've drove all three. I can unbiasedly say I prefer the GMC.

Ford is 2nd. Transmission is improved. Interior is very nice. Ride is good but. It great.

I hated the ride of the dodge. Mega cab was nice. Transmission was not even close. Ride was horrible. Interior was greatly improved, information center is nice. Didn't like the control for climate control etc. price is right on the truck. You can save money, is it worth it to you?

Really? You don't think the Allison is any better? I'm not familar with the current Dodge tranny but I know how well the older ones have held up. There is a reason so many people want a manual transmission with the Cummins.

GM has more umph than the Dodge. That's not even debatable.

Just read these two reviews for 2011 and 2012 HD trucks.

I actually agree that the dmax has more umph or seat of the pants feel for sure. The car and driver test was the only one that actually tested 2012's from all 3 and I would say most of what they said was pretty dead on. But it makes you wonder how the chevy came in first. basically if you don't care about style or interior get the chevy.

And yeah the allison is a lot of hype. All the factory trans will hold up to serious use on a stock truck. when guys turn up the juice they fail... be it ford, dodge, or chev. they all fail. And they all fail at about the same power levels... but different parts fail on each one.... on the dodge its the tc... the allison is the clutch paks. All of them need serious upgrades if turning up the power.

On a side note I drove all three before I settled on my 2012 big horn dodge about a month ago. (I just can't justify the money on the super pricey models:face-icon-small-sho)
And honestly even though I am a dodge homer for sure I tried to be as unbiased as I could be.

The chevy has a great powertrain but no matter how hard I tried the interior and exterior just did nothing at all for me... everyone is different of course.

The ford was nice... liked it a lot actually. But part of me felt like their new engine was not something that i was willing to take a chance on. especially when there was a guy there with an ecoboost looking to trade up because he was constantly in the shop.

In the end I chose what I kinda figured would happen all along. The only thing I didn't like was that the 12 has slower steering than my 06 does. Its at least 5 turns lock to lock... I feel like my 06 was more like 3.

I would call the Allison hype very valid. Allison has been making HD transmission for years, I believe like 60 years. They make the transmission that goes in the M1 Abrams Tank, among other military vehicles.
Ford uses Allison in their heavy duty trucks (F-650 and larger?)
Both Ford and Dodge have tried to get an Allison in their smaller light duty trucks (the HD's we all drive, use and are talking about).

On the bold... That right there shows you bought into the hype... talk about great marketing. I can still remember the commercials that GMC used to run that stated that.

In the interest of a good discussion I would like to offer a comparison... International has a great reputation for building diesel engines. However look at the 6.0 powerstroke... completely substandard. Allison makes a trans that goes in a tank. Big deal, its not the SAME trans that goes in the truck.

And yes the allison is a very good transmission. Is it absolutely bulletproof and indestructible like some chevy fan boys claim? No, not even close. Is it better than the dodge 68rfe? IMO its about equal. But you are entitled to your opinion too.

Polarisfornow - go read the reviews I posted. There is a good comparison of motor/tranny combos. No hype just two different tests of the same trucks for both 2011 and 2012.

Go back to the intercooled 7.3....still chugging along. I'd say that was Ford's bulletproof engine.

I've read many reviews and read the ones that you posted as well... I didn't put much weight into the edmonds test as it was a 10 ram and 11 ford and chevy... Not really a level playing field IMO... but the car and driver test was very accurate like I said in an earlier post. But if you click to the right of the article you can download all the specs and times in the challenges and according to the numbers I feel like they were a little biased toward the chevy. But thats fine as I can look at data and decide for myself what I think is important. For me stopping safely is more important than being the fastest. Dodge won that one. Just an example.

One other thing... if you want great truck comparisons use pickuptrucks.com, heres one they did last year. the test for all the 12's is underway right now.

The International built a great motor. The problem with the 6.0 is that International built it with their specs, used their own electronics and then Ford got a hold of it and built it their own way and used their own electronics and ECU programming.

The point being about the Allison is that they build HD applications and have a great job doing that. They don't build motors or chassis. They focus on one thing and they do a great job of that.

I think all three manufactures build or source a great motor right now, but I think hands down the Allison is the best transmission in them and does the best job of putting the power down to the wheels and managing the load put back on it. I really don't care if you can tune out the GMC/Allison to hold more power. GM built it to handle their power and it does a great job of that. Any manufacture that builds it to handle loads more power is wasting YOUR money, for I'd say 90% of the buyers never touch their truck and add power. (that might be different on this forum, but across the board). If they are over-engineering a truck to handle way more power than they give it, it just costs more money.

:usa2:

If I could get an F350 with a Cummins/Allison combo I'd be in heaven, I'll put it that way :)

While I agree that engine was fantastic (I owned an 02 Powerstroke) it doesn't hold a candle to the performance of today's diesel offerings. The biggest thing holding the 7.3 back was the 4 speed auto mated to it.

And the noise. I don't miss the injector clatter of my Powerstroke AT ALL.

I agree. Ive got a 7.3 and its good and all, but LOUD with an exhaust and sluggish compared to the new 6.7 engine when shifting.... Definately out dated IMO.
