Democrat or Republican - Sledding areas

So all this crap going on with these hippies that want to take away our areas and make them into Wilderness areas/Roadless areas...

Now I know Palin's husband is a snowmobile racer, but I would like to know which party is truely gonna be the better pick as to keeping our areas safe from hippies. I hear this and that from many people that republican is the choice if you want to keep your areas safe from being turned into wilderness/roadless areas but I have not seen much factual information to back this up. Anyone have any links or info I can check out on this issue?

My vote is for the party that lets me keep my areas to ride, that is all I really care about in this fvcked up world. :beer;

Thank god someone finally brought this up... It's a serious issue that needs to be debated. How 'bout it folks, let's have some information laid out.

Got search? LMAO

Also witch side is blindly folowing AL Gore the most???? The DEM's, Way more Greenies on that side.

.

In the past 8 years I have only heard of closures and never of areas being re-opened? Who has been in control?

The truth is that special interest groups are the ones to blame, regardless of which party is in control. Sadly politicans are willing to side with almost any group as long as they can line their pockets and secure their political future.

Not until snowmiblers as a group get organized and start raising money for lobbying will things go any differently.

I could be wrong but I believe Clinton signed a Bill to close Jelly stone on the last day in office and one of the first things Bush did was reopen it.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, SAWS is forbidden from recommending and/or endorsing certain candidates and/or political parties. SAWS is allowed to states facts. And I as an individual, am allowed to post my opinions on this issue, but they are just my opinions when posting about politics, and should not be construed as positions from SAWS.

That being said, there are also many other important issues that you need to think about when voting for any candidate, but keeping snowmobile areas open would certainly be on my list. Make yourself a list of 5 to 10 issues that are important to you, and it should be very easy to decide who is right for you.

The issue of riding areas remaining open and less closures it not a straight ticket Rep (R) or Dem (D) issue, but more a conservative and liberal mindset. There are some good politicians in both parties, and many, many bad politicians, but to cut to the chase there are far more conservatives in the R party than the D party, and by and large, conservatives do not support additional wilderness areas nearly as much as liberals.

There are plenty of facts out there to back the above statement up. I post about all the time about who voted for what bill. SAWS also sends out numerous emails on various bills that will close down snowmobile use, and we also send out info on what politician voted for what bill, because these facts speak for themselves and we are allowed to relay facts to our members.

Also public land managers such as the Forest Service, BLM and the National Park Service shut down millions of acres of public land to motorized use every year or so without even going through Congress. Is that right? Depends on who you ask, but in my opinion they should never be able to close a Recommended Wilderness Area to snowmobile without Congress approving the next step - a true wilderness designation that is signed by the President.

A few facts:

58 million Roadless Rule = Clinton (D)

Millions of acres designated as National Monuments = Clinton (D)

Yellowstone to phase out snowmobiles = Clinton (D)

Wild Sky Wilderness designation in Wa State = Bush (with a democrat controlled House and Senate that passed the bill first) (D and R)

Numerous blocked wilderness bills by House Resource Committee yr 2003 - 2006 = Chairman Richard Pombo = (R)

Number wilderness bills working their way through Congress 2007 -2008 with several approved = (D controlled House and Senate)

Wildlands Project bill to close large portions of WA, ID, MT and WY to people and machines = mostly D's are co-sponsors of this terrible bill

Edit: I made the assumption with my post that you understand the rules of how Congress must first approve bills. For example a new wilderness designation bill, before the bill can go to the President for his signature and then become law must go through Congress first. And whatever party controls the House, gets to appoint all of the committee chairs, and this is the same in the Senate. So if the controlling party (currently D in the House and Senate) do not want a bill presented by the other party to go forward for a full vote of the House or Senate, they just kill the bill in committee, and it never becomes law. If Congress gets a bill to the President's desk that he doesn't like, he can just veto the bill. Then it goes back to Congress for changes the President wants to see, but if Congress can get 2/3 to vote for the bill as is, the President has no choice and the bill then becomes law whether he likes it or not. Also the President can by-pass Congress and make Executive Orders. This is what Clinton did with the Roadless Rule and the National Monuments. Both of these laws never went through Congress.

D or R?

Republicans clearly have supported off road use better that Democrats for the 35 years I have followed this at all levels of government. Its not even close.

A snowmobiler who votes for the democrat must not care what happens to the riding areas and have other reasons to vote that way IMHO

I vote Republican, not because they are perfect, but because they are on the right side of the major issues important to me. They are the conservative party. If gun rights, lower taxes, faith in God, pro-business, strong military, more snowmobiling, less greenies, are important to you, then vote Republican. That's why this prez election is so important!

The democrats are the liberal party, I can't stand libs. Enviro-wacko's, greenies, global warming alarmists, hippies, and the Clintons belong to the democratic party.

I believe I can answer for you after reading your facts gathered by Saws. Republicans are for freedom, Dems want to control you. I can honestly say that in the last eight years I've seen a lot less effort on the part of our Forest Service to run around and enforce misguided moronic legislation, although I was held at gunpoint against my will for a few hours one beautiful winter afternoon because an airplane was trying to define our wilderness boundary from the air at roughly 15,000'. Talk about a waste of tax dollars. Roughly $8,000/day to make sure nobody's ski travels on sacred ground as he put it. Can you say Holy F%#K, what has come of this great country. I'd be willing to bet the Palin's support multiple use and freedom.

Any questions?

Here are the details of which party has 14.5% (9 Republicans; 130 – Democrats) more support for HR1975, a bill that would designate approximately 20.5 million MORE acres as wilderness in the states of Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming.

The 9 republicans that signed on are all east cost liberal RINOs (Republicans In Name Only). And of course most of the democrats that signed on are liberals from either the east coast or west coast, except a few from some southern states too.

This should make it pretty clear that the issue is more of a liberal/conservative issue. Liberal = usually vote real bad for sledders. Conservative = occasionally vote bad for sledders.

Any questions?
