Dear Polaris, you have lost another one

I feel for ya cajun, my 09' went down with 504 miles, no warranty, my dealer called polaris and tried to get them to cover it under the good faith warranty, no go, so i called and complained and the guy on the other line pretty much told me to pound sand and he totaly agreed with me that polaris's problems are bull**** and they should be covered, all he said at the end is hopefully they can get there motors figured out next year.

next year the 2012's will be out and we will be in the same spot the 900's were when the D8 came out...everyone forgot about them and thought the D8 was the ****...until all this **** started to happen. you would think we could get something done with the number of people who have had nothing but trouble with these things....but we are just a number to those ****ers sitting at polaris HQ

My dealer said they have done over 300 updated top ends to date with some people on there 3rd and 4th top ends, he took all my info and pics with him to the polaris conferences this week and was going to go to bat for me, we'll see what happens.

I feel bad for you Cajun, I am kinda in the same boat. I have a sled that I love, a motor that I hate and I can not afford to upgrade right now. I'm out of college but the wife lost her job and has gone to work for herself so income is down to say the least right now. I wish I had done just a little more research to see how in depth the problems with these sleds were and looked past the really "good" deal I got... I traded the best sled I ever owned towards this POS.

I broke both front motor mounts last weekend so I have to pull the motor and while I have it out I am pretty sure I am gonna install the FIX kit and hope for the best.

i did the same damn thing! i saw the add and thought holy **** this is a smokin deal! so i jumped without researching anything....next sled i buy i will be doing an in depth search on whatever it is and its previous history....stupid hurts i guess lol. ya live and ya learn

That is a healthy attitude. Many of us are with you. After the 900 fiasco and the success of the 700 in 07. I thought there is no way they would screw up the 800. They wouldn't dare. Nope, no way would they mess that up. So, I snowchecked one. Oops.

I have learned a lot from this sled. Patience...patience in tuning. I don't get to ride that much so after 4 seasons my sled is running better than it ever has. And I think next year will be even better yet. Patience in waiting for parts because this sled seems to need more than most. I have learned that I would rather have a reliable sled than a powerful one. I see a big future in the 600 class. I would rather ride than wrench. I have learned that I stand on my own because Polaris is not there for me. Even with my very dated degree in snowmobile mechanics I still know more than a Polaris engineer. Lol  They can't do it right so I will do it myslef. I have learned the value of a dollar. I have learned sometimes it is better to walk away from a bad investment rather than spend more money on it.

Ya live and ya learn  I must be one dumb SOB  I'm in my later 40's and bought my first sled when I was in 6th or 7th grade , been to long , ya think I would of learned by now

I feel for you this type of thing sucks! But when you think about it wouldn't polaris actually save money by fixing everyones sleds the right way the first time rather than putting a band aid on it and covering it with an extra year of warranty and still replacing a crap load of parts on their dime in the warranty period (that is if they decide to step up to the plate)? or are they wearing blind folds until everyones warranty runs out? Sure its a huge initial investment but in the long run to me at least I think it would have paid for its self. ESPECIALLY if its because of the out of spec engine parts. Just thinking out loud.

The one year warranty add-0n was a joke, too. The letter said it ends June, 2010. If you had a 2009 with a two year warranty, the "free" warranty was actually inside the time frame of your two year warranty. They gave us nothing.

I have bought two top ends in less than 440 miles during my ownership and in some 900 miles of the sled's life. The sled is on its second MFD, chassis relay, stator, and maybe 3rd voltage regulator. I just installed Wiseco pistons in a replated cylinder. I was sorry that an aftermarket gasket set was not available--Polaris did not deserve my hundred something dollars for the few o-rings,etc.

Its not all pistons-- the second factory new cylinder bore is large enough that a full diameter piston (85 mm or 3.34 inches, would have been close to factory clearance. It measured 3.347 inches, or 85.01 mm.

The pistons were different-- one was 3.320 in (84.328) and the other 3.338
(84.7852). The clearances were .027 (.6858) and .009 (.2286) -- neither within spec.

It was fun-- I could get a .035 in/.88 mm feeler guage between the skirt and the cylinder with the piston at top of bore. The little piston practically drops in without trying to compress the rings-- gravity will do it.

Like so many others, I am really mad.

My buddy lost his 09 motor after 75mi, it was an 08 with an 09 crate motor installed. The piston skirt broke and went down through the cases toasting the motor. Polaris denied warrently claim, dealer agreed to cover labor only in order to fix the motor. He is looking into the "fix" right now. Funny thing is he had an 02 800 that broke a crank and I rebuilt it for him. We had a discussion about Pol and I told him I wound NOT buy another sled again from them until I saw sustained reliability and warrenty coverage. Well he bought this dragon anyway and BAM he is back to riding the 02. After my 03 poo broke it's crank and was NOT covered under warrenty I moved on to another brand of sled. The ONLY way these guys change is if you hurt their bottom line, money talks everything else walks and as long as people keep commiting the insanity buying again from an unreliable source they will continue to build them that way.

Has your dealer offered to help in any way? I know my doo dealer would help with parts or labor or something if it's fairly new even without warranty. Personally I think all the 800's are junk. Just bought the wife a new 600 XP and I may just put my ego aside and ride one of those for my next sled. They are so fun, smooth, better clutch, cheaper belts, better belt life, much longer motor life.

wow! that is complete bull****! what do they have on the assembly lines..a bunch of blind people putting these things together? what ever happened to quality control? i wonder igf polaris even owns a mike or calliper? i could do a better job with a ruler and a file!

IMO your 100%
who want to deal with incompetence. Polaris was prob soully responsible
for 25% of Yamaha sales.:face-icon-small-sho

I seriously doubt if things are going to get better. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I saw somewhere(on here or some other site) that the 2012 units are going to be assembled down in Tacoville. Don't know if that's motors, chassis, or what. So now, for $12,000, you might get an assembly sticker on your new roach saying "put together by Julio". God help us!!

We might be in deep(er) s**t, guys.

Only atv's and side x sides are being built there. Sleds are staying in the U.S..

I remember some die hard Poo guys saying it's all just a speculation and someone started it out of spite on here somewhere and this was just last year. The 2010 that we snowchecked in the the spring of 2009 says on the bottom of the throttle bodies Assembled In Mexico.

I have a 2009 800 Dragon that I took in for the update in DEC 2009 with little under 1000miles, took 3 weeks get it back and coming off the trailer it grenaded with quarter size holes in the crank case. Took it back and after numerous hours of complaining and threatening to take my sled polaris stepped up and said would give me a 2010 crate motor. I was finally back on my sled in mid Jan 2010. Over the last couple weeks my sled has been kicking out detonation codes, and this last weekend with 1000miles on the new motor it popped again! Its at the shop right now, waiting to hear what polaris says. I am worried I will get nothing we can do sorry.... I just test rode the 2011 pro's and loved the sled it was sick. Yet this makes me wonder what is with the pro's motor?

Is it the same motor? Have the 2011 been having the same problems? I am totally in the market to move to a new sled I can't take the dragon not breathing fire and just plopping. I want to know my hard earned money (I bought my dragon while finishing school too).
I have had lots sleds including my crossfire since 2006 that I just sold week ago so know I am without anything to ride and never had two motors explode within 1000 miles.
