Dealer Problems

Recently my wife and I came to situation that we think is pretty messed up. We bought two new sleds this year a phazer for my wife, a nytro for me, from the Alaska Fun Center in Fairbanks Alaska. I put a turbo on my Nytro so the warrenty is void right away, thats fine, thats why I bought Yamaha. We bought a phazer for my wife so she could ride around with me on a worry free sled, it has been great. We recently took the phazer in for the first service, they change the oil look it over and charge you 260.00 dollers, which is a rip off, we paid it thats fine. I change the oil and service all of my things, we only took the sled in for service because they say the warrenty could be void if you do not. Well anyway after couple of rides last weekend we were riding way back in summit when the phazer spewed all of its oil out and died. After reading about people getting oil changes and having the dealer forget to remove the old oil filter gasket, that is the first thing I check, sure thing they doubled up the gaskets on the oil filter. So we spend the next few hours on the mountain removing the air box, throttle bodies, etc to get to the oil filter which is a pita. Its not like the nytro on t he bottom of the engine, but on the front which is huge pain in the *** to get, let alone in back country with limited tools. We removed the extra gasket I ran back to the truck to get oil, I had only 2 quarts which was not enough, so after all that we ended up having to tow it home. Which ruined one the the most bluebird days of the winter, Not to mention we have to drove a hundred miles to drop it off and a hundred miles to pick it up at the dealer. So my wife is pissed, she loves that sled and now thinks the reliability has been compromised from running out of oil. So we decide that its only fair they refund our oil change and extend our warrenty. The dealer says they will only refund 206.00 for in store credit. My wife says that is not good enough, so they have mechanic that did the work call back and say he is going to pay out of his pocket for another service and extended warrenty. Me and my wife decide we cannot accept that. How cheap can this dealer be making the mechanic pay out of his own pocket for this. I have worked in the service industry for many years as an hvac tech, I have worked on small residential jobs to large commercial jobs, and I will admit I have made a costly mistake in my day. Never has a company I worked for asked me to pay out of my own pocket to replace something, that is the cost of doing business. We spent 18 grand at this dealer on new sleds and have also steered friends there direction who also bought three new sleds from them as well, and this is how they treat us. I can guarentee I will tell everyone how we were treated, word of mouth is the best advetisement they can lose out on. What would any body else do? We are not asking for much, Just a refund for crappy service and a extended warrenty.

Thanks everybody, Yamaha wouldnt give me the dimensions of the bearing it self but they amazingly found one laying around and will be overnighting it to the dealer to be put in. For anyone who wines about actually yamaha relations corp. custmer service has something wrong with them. They were the nicest most understanding people i have ever dealt with and knew where i was coming from. If your dealers dont have answers for you give these guys a try-stuff gets done!!

Give it a shot, im willing to bet they will make something happen and hold the DEALER accountable!

I tried them with some problems I was having...all I got was "Were sorry you feel this way about Yamaha, We are sure your dealer is working hard towards resolving this problem, we haven't heard of this before bah bah bah" . I got more help here on the 4m than from the dealer or Yamaha. Dino

dealer problems

dont expect mother yamaha to care your only one of thousands to be screwed over by dealers who push their product and unless you burn alive on their sled your just a bump in the road and not really a noticeable one .

It's too bad they are giving you a hard time. When I changed the oil on my Nytro I noticed the o-ring stuck to the bottom of the motor. Their service tech should have caught it on your Phazer. Seems like they are trying to guilt you on the whole deal. I'd take the in store credit, use it up and then never go back. Is there another Yamaha dealer in Fairbanks?

store credit

Store credit is worth half price on a good day what i would like to see these dealers do is offer straight up credits to other brands ...........back your stuff up .......if you dont like our product we will buy you one of theirs.....i have a feeling only one dealer could do that short term and one longwise neither is poo or cat .

people suck....

me too i have had a bit of trouble with those guys too... but i have had trouble with skidoo and some friends with poo.... but what i have noticed... is that its not the product but the turd who bought the dealership.... too bad its usually a jerk.... there is one place i get great service for my yammies is 30 miles from my place...miy dealer is 1 mile.... but i have to go to the dealer i bought my sleds....for the warrenty..... and there in the last 4 years i bought 3 yams.. an atv and 2 trailers.... which comes to over 60 grand.... he does not care .. just as important as the guy buying a screw......now i tell my friends to talk to the owner before you buy.... so lots of time its not the companie... its the dealer... that garentie comes with the owner...its only as good as he is...

Oh believe me, not all owners know what's happening or what proper business practises are....finding the person at the dealership that understands and can make things happen, often times that is NOT the owner. IMO

I've seen my share of this kind of thing before, here's my take
Asking for a warranty extension wont work, the problem is not a factory defect it is a dealer mistake and is not covered under warranty anyway
If your engine breaks tomorrow because of a bearing skid it's not the factory's responsibility
Also if there was bearing damage it wont wait a year to fail, it would probably break almost immediately and be brutally expensive
A reasonable request would be to ask the engine to be torn down for visible inspection of rod, main bearings and cam's, it's also reasonable to ask to inspect these parts yourself when they have it apart
My advice is dont wait for future consideration, if you go back in 8 months with a rod hanging out yer gonna start all over again
Get it over with as soon as possible and then decide if you ever want to go back to them
Got a nice dealer in Whitehorse:)

I called the # mclovin posted up here and talked to Yamaha customer service, They could not believe the dealer was making the mechanic come in on his own time to look at the sled, they also could not believe they tried to make the mechanic pay for this out of his own pocket. Yamaha exteneded our warrenty for a year and told us we could have the other dealer in town check the sled out and they would pay for it. Yamaha customer service was great.

Sounds like you came out of it pretty well! I'd still get the in store credit because otherwise you are not getting anything out of that dealer. The whole credit thing is weak but at least it's something.

I forgot to mention my wife talked to the owners and told them in store credit is not good enough. They refunded 206.00 to our debit card, its not the whole cost but thats all they would budge. This is the owners we have been dealing with the whole time, not just some service manager, the service manger wanted to make everything right but the owners refused to help us out.

I to can not believe they would try to make the mechanic pay for this. If you actually think about what the dealer would have been out if he would have just said, "sorry for that heres your cash back ect.. you would have been not so pissed and he it would have cost him a few litres of oil, filter, and his guys time which would have been maybe fifty bucks. Im not sure what extended warranty cost but you would have been back to buy a couple more sleds im sure one day. I think this guys a fool myself he really lost out by this.

Better Dealer in Town.

I had one similar situation with Alaska Fun on my first sled way back when and started spending my money at Northern Power Sports. I've never had a single problem with NPS and they are always more then willing to help out. Alaska Fun Center is shady, you and I are not the only ones to have problems. I know for sure that I've talked at least a dozen people into buying their sleds from NPS instead of Alaska Fun Center. Word of mouth.
