DD oil seals backwards?

06 M7 DD oil seals, manual shows flat side out towards drive shaft it was installed the other way with flat side in towards DD?

I have not looked at any of these but seals always have the open side towards the oil and flat side out. At least any seals I have ever worked with. The DD's should have been made with dual seals that would seal the oil in and the snow and water out.

That is exactly the way it is on the drive shaft.
The seal is installed correct to keep the water/snow out. The inner one keeps the oil in.
