Cylinder options

I decided since my 2011 pro has 2000 fairly hard miles i would be safe and throw a top end in it. To start with everything looked great. Pistons had pretty normal wear, and the cylinders looked new. Then i found the crack on the cylinder skirt. So now i am wondering what my replacement options are. I already have new oe pistons for it unfortuneately. I have found factory new cylinders for $800 give or take online. But i am wondering if anyone has tried a reman cylinder, they are around $400 with core, or what other options I have. Thanks

Indy Dan has direct replace/swap cylinder that come with a 3yr warranty.

Will work with stock pistons.

Give him a call 651-388-9045

I don't know of any aftermarket stock bore cylinders out there(there are big bore cylinders though..) might for fun call Indy Dan or Carl's and see if either can get aftermarket cylinders made with stock bore....if they could..I think it would be a money maker for someone.......

I picked up a new take-off cyl from a '13 (they have the thickest skirts) and had RuthPower.com fly cut the top of my case to accept the new cyl. Don't remember what it cost but is was very reasonable.

Now I have. Good used '12 cyl for sale.... :)

I did a swap with my 12 pro that has less than 700 miles (most are boosted) on it. I went with Indy Dan for my piece of mind knowing that the cylinder skirts are welded. His "kit" comes with the cylinders and pistons for $995 shipped. You will need to send him your cylinders as part of the exchange. He also has the wrist pins, wrist pin bearings, all seals/gaskets, c-clips...etc if you need them.

IMHO, this is the best route to go. I still haven't figured out why some people only swap the pistons, knowing that the cylinder skirts are probably weak from the slapping of the piston.

Alot less vibration on my sled with the swap out. I had a cracked piston skirt on my mag side piston. I also did a before and after compression test and gained 10 psi per cylinder (any new piston will obviously do this, just not Dan's kit).

Here is a comparison shot of the 2012 (right) to the 2013 (left). And a pic of the machine work on my top half of the case. ( removed 2mm)

Also, with the 2013 top end I bought, the guy said it had "a couple hundred miles on it". Curt at Fastrax confirmed it by measuring the clearance.
