cyl heads

slp will sell you one BUT rk tech will not.

RK Tech will let you send in a stock head and clean it up to make the flow better.

A RK Tech head has made a 900 TOO cool and caused less power output because the system would retard until it warmed up (but would not warm up). Some have said a RK Tech head will keep the sled under 100F and optimal running is 120 to 145F
The 120F varies and occurs when the thermostat open up. Simply hold your hand on the metal pipe in footwell and see temp when it gets warm.

So I run the stock head with no front cooler.

yeah i was wondering about power wise between slp and rk techs dome inserts on the stock head thanks

i have the SLP head and its great...only got about 2 rides on it before end of season, but it did show lower temps and had great response and i am very pleased with it..

i also have an RK TEK BILLET HEAD..its a piece of art really...anyways..they are suppose to be the BEST head for performance gains, but like DonBrown said..they ahev been known to cool too much..there is NO thermostat housing in the actual Billet Head..so you would have to gate the coolant somehow to control the temps, PINA..thats why i am not using it..but i will NOT get rid of it either..VERY hard to come by..

IF you want the stock head modified to fit the RK inserts..that is VERY much worth it as well..you get the performance gains from the inserts, better cooling from being gutted out..AND you have the factory thermostat housing...and RK TEK REALLY KNOWS their stuff..i talked to them alot about this in the past...but i already had the SLP head at the time..

anyways..if you need more info, let me know..

aftermarket head

So I ride from 3000' to 7000' and most of the good powder would be 5000' and up. What domes would I run 5000'+? Would I have to run race gas mix for starting out on the trail at 3000'? What gain would I notice?

Thanks
Mark

the SLP head is great, looks great, performs great...BUT you have to plug your throttle body coolant lines, which is not a bad thing IMO, and has much better coolant flow then stock...and i have totally happy with mine..

RTK sleep heads inserts are just as good, and looks stock, do not have to plug any lines, and you have the ability to change inserts for diff altitudes as well, also has much better coolant flow over stock..so you cnt go wrong here either...

i always hear that RKT is BETTER, but i cant say personally..what i would do if yuo was you...Call SLP AND RKT and talk to them, tell them your project build and make them sell you...

Both heads are going to perform awesome...either way is a great mod..

sorry didnt help much, lol

We start out at about 2500ft from the parking lot and end up at 6000-7000ft. I ran the SLP billet head in my 05 and both my 06 900's with the 5000+ domes and was just fine. No need to run 50/50.

I also had the complete SLP performance kits in all 3 900's with porting in the 05.

Guido, you kinda sound like a salesman that can't get to the punch line.......:D

Great, thanks.:beer;

RK Tek all the way! Like Guido said the RKT will cool more efficiently. The head to cylinder passages are ovals that match up to the oval cylinder passages. SLP, stock and others are circles that match up to ovals that are like 3 times the size. Stupid if you ask me. I run the RKT and I have a garden hose on/off valve that I usually run half way open. No problem whatsoever on hitting the right temp. As long as my temp. gauge is working. But I have no use for the other gauges because my speedo is off due to 3" pitch drivers. And I can monitor temp and RPM at the same time. I do plan on getting an inline t-stat housing one of these days which is another option for the Billet RKT Head, but it is not very hi on my list. With the RKT sleeper head you will be miles ahead, or at least sled lengths ahead, unless your going for the bling factor.
