Cutting track down in size ?'s

I am from the midwest and I am extending my 121 sled to 144" and want to go with a 1.5" lug track. I am trying to save as much money as possible while doing it, so I have been looking for used 144 by 15 by 1.5 tracks everywhere I can. Unfortunalty these tracks are not common and therefore I can not find one for less than 500$ new. My question is if i can buy a nice used 144 by 2" track somewhere since they are much more common and then trim it down. If I do this, is the structural integrity of the track compromised at all? Also if this is do-able, what is the best way to cut the track down? Is there a track that any of you would recommend for cutting down.
Thanks for any info or opinions you maybe able to give me.

Definitely, It won't be a problem. I know drag guys that are buying paddle tracks and cutting them to .75" I'm not sure exactly what track they are using, but they said that the bottom 3/4" of a paddle is stiffer than a regular .75" lug.

No problem

Did just that last year on my kids sled. Took a 144 2" Camo from a 04 RMK 600, cut it down to 1 1/2". There have been a few other opinions on this in the forums before, and I'm telling you, get a good pair of tin snips and they cut easy and straight. Tried the box knife idea and it sucked.

I recognise the bumper on that tricked out Phazer.
I wondered how you got that track under it!

I cut down a 136X1.75 to 1.5" to fit under a Phazer II. I built a small jig from plate alluminum, threaded rod and a box cutting blade. Ended up with very uniform cuts. It was a polaris track which I think was made by camoplast. I don;t think you'd have any issues cutting down almost any track.

good luck,

Shawn
