doing a custom turbo build i have a small turbo no shur on sizing but i thing it is out of a small misubisi, istalled the turbo and at idle it is spinning really fast then i rev it up and it will only rev to 5200rpm then it will start it cut out i acts like there is a patato in the exhoust, and i do not have the boost tube hooked up when i do hook it up i am only getting like 1lbs of boost, a friend of mine told me the turbo is to big, but he only know about diesel tractors, i then tried a smaller turbo and it was worse it would only rev to 4800rpm, and it would barely idel if not kill any help would be greatful it is for a 08 polaris 700rmk. I also know people might say you can just buy a kit and bolt it togeather but why buy it when you can build it, also i want to learn all about it and not just bolt it on and go thanks chris

I would recommend reading everything you can in the turbo sections.

It would also be helpful if you knew exactly what turbo you have. Good luck with the build. I wouldn't try and reinvent the wheel, look at the other kits and use the same parts.

Are you having something control the fuel and spark with this turbo setup? If not the timing will be way too high causing misfiring and detonation which would probably be the reason it isn't rev'ing up. as said above though some better specs would be needed to diagnose further..

You can't have too small of a turbo technically speaking. The characteristics may not be ideal but any size turbo will work, its just a matter of getting the right performance out of it. small turbos will spool super quick and make good power at the lower rpm range, then lack in power up top. However, I really do not think your turbo size is the issue..

First of all, what turbo is it or what mitsubishi car is it from?

Do you have a free flowing exhaust out of the turbo? Something is stuffing it up. I had a bad turbo that would hit 1psi boost and sieze, it wouldnt rev at all unless I kept it off boost.

hay guys thanks for the replys will try to get pictures up soon it is a garrett turbo, off i believe a misubisi eclipes, 99 it is free flowing that is one of the first things i checked, the shaft play is very little and it does turn very nicely, i looked up the specs on it and it is like a gt25 turbo so quit a bit smaller then a 2860 i have a diffrent turbo on its way so i will see what happens

Well, that turbo is in fact too small but I still don't think thats your problem. As far as mitsubishi turbo's go, a 16g, or an evo turbo works well. I am running an evo8.
