cummins mods

mine is an 01 cummins with a 6 speed. Bigger injectors, aftermarket turbo clutch set up, exhaust, etc. and I am wondering about a programable chip that I can adjust while Im runnin down the road.

Get a smarty programer they are awsome

Definatelt Smarty, by far the best for the Cummins.

I installed one on my buds 01 and he $hit his pants when we went for a ride, he can't shift fast enough, great power and very usuable.

not to sure about that smarty is a great product but your only using some of the fueling potential. a smarty will get around 80hp while a box with a wire tap ie, edge, tst, quadzilla adrenaline 180hp (is what i use). i have been happy with mine 10 powerlevels on the fly and egt, engine temp, boost read outs, turbo timer egt limits lots of options with it.

from what i've seen stuff like the edge comp box seems to be pretty popular on that year of cummins. i have a couple buddies that had 01 cummins's with the comp box and they seemed to add decent power but they seemed very hot, the egt's on there trucks would jump fast as hell when they mashed on it.

Torque is the big diffrence, been there done that. Torque management is what seperates smarty from the rest.

Done many diffrent chips on cummins motors all years, the test is on the manual trucks. Seen smarty slip clutches on 30hp settings in low gears empty while 100+ hp chips wouldnt even slip in top gear fully loaded!

The low boost fueling and driveability is by far the best out there IMO

what turbo and injectors?clutch? real hard to make a good suggestion with out knowing those factors. but anyways with a smarty you would be lucky to gain 65 hp on a vp44.your gain would be more in low end fueling for better tourque numbers.I ran it for 3 years on my 02 and finally gave up on it.horrible street manors and really the only reason i ran it is because i could run my drag comp with it, and it really helps spool my twins.I am now switching to a ts mvp stacked with a bluechip fms. I haven't got any time yet with the mvp but 125 hp and 250 tq on the dyno without tapping the pump wire is very impressive.plus I liked that it had an infinitely adjustable switch, so 0-125 and everything in between.you can find them between 350 and 400 bucks.

I will disagree on the driveability part, and not to mention the lack of top end fueling on the smarty for the vp44 really sucks, which is why it works best with a stack.point is there is way better stuff out there for the vp trucks. the smarty for the common rail on the otherhand is a different story.fuel all around.revo tnt race tune on those trucks is just nuts.wish i could get that kinda power from my vp. gonna have to start modding my 04.5.lol

The HO 6spd trucks respond better to injectors over electronics, You wont win any dyno competitions with JUST the smarty but like I said the bottom end is very strong with it compared to others IMO.

the smarty does fall down on trhe top end, but stack it with a edge drag comp to take care of the top. Smarty will handle the bottom end VERY well. Just run the even settings on the smarty while stacked with the comp so you dont overdo on the timing. As far as injectors i would reccomend DDP as the best, but there are some less expensive ones such as farmboys or coaltrain that run very well. I would stay away from the edge jammers as they are very hot and smoky. Turbo: II or HTT

i here yeah the smarty had much better low end pull then my edge ez did but still my quadzilla on power level 2-3 out of ten pulls about the same/harder then the smarty did. but depends what you want. i use my truck for fun so i thoughts might be different.

If your looking for straight up performance for fun than you should definatly look at the Blue chip or the Redline box. I had a buddy with an 02 6spd with a larger turbo, injectors, and the blue chip and nothing could touch him except for a twin turbo common rail. If thats still not enough power for ya then your next best bet would be a hot rod VP-44 pump. I personaly like the smarty for how user friendly it is and it will boost you a great deal of power with amazing torque. Took my auto trany out in two weeks and it wasnt stock:cool:

fms and redline are a great box. expensive though and needs to be stacked with another box in order to have timing. sweet setup but the most expensive combo.

Listen to this very carefully......Everything Matty said is true. I also tried many different chips/programmers on all the Dodges I owned and none, not one, come close to comparing to how hard the Smarty comes on down low.
The bad side is, is you cant change it on the fly....

Seen way to many FMS chips fail, poor quality from what ive seen. When they work they are impressive though!
