Crossfire or M-Series 141

I ride in the Midwest 50% and Mountains 50%. I want to be able to setup sled for either.

Should I start with a xfire or an M. I would go 141 with M-series and cut down a track to around 1" to ride in Midwest.

Or I would stretch Xfire to 141 and run an Attack 20 or Challenger track for out West. I also could go 144. I know the pitch of 141 tracks are different that the 136 but I could just get two shafts and drivers.

I enjoy riding tracks that are 144 or smaller out West. I like the challenge and mobility. I don't go out West enough to really use 150 something.

What do you think would be a better model to start with?

I would go with the M-series and leave it the way it is. There is no need to re-clutch or anything. Just put a set of ice scratchers on to help keep the track cool while riding around home. That is what I do with my M8 162, and I don't have any problems. It takes awhile to get used to riding on the river without studs, but if you stay to the outside, you can rip and have alot of fun. And you don't have to piss with changing anything before heading out west.

Good luck,
Boone

P.S. - check with Country Cat in Sauk Centre, MN. They have some really great deals on some new M's. That's where I got mine.

The XF is absolutely useless in deep powder. The M isnt the greatest trail sled but I do fine with my 141". I use scratchers at all times on trails and usually ride with a XF and F7 and Im always in front except when we get to long starightaways.

Crossfire has a wider ski stance does'nt it? I would go with the M just for the narrower front end, makes sidehilling much easier!

M7 or 8 in 153 or 162. Wouldn't even bother with a 141" unless you've got trailer space limitations.

I have an 06 M6 141 and an 06 M7 162 LE

I like both sleds, and love both sleds! We always ride Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, 0-1500 ft elevation. The 141 is good on the trail and in the Pow, the 162 is not horrible on the trail, but c'mon it is a 162. The 162 goes everywhere, and the 141 will to, but it has to work just a bit harder. I have not had to use scratchers on either sled, but just bought a pair for the 162.

We have two 141 sleds. A M7 & a M8.

The 141 will go anywhere you want to go if you ride it hard enough. It climbs good but if you do a lot of extreme climbing you will not be happy. The M7 has the A20 on it and it overheats on the trail. I had to put ice scratchers on it. But the short track sleds are a blast to ride in the powder. But suck on the trail.

just curious, why is a crossfire so useless in deep snow when it is exaclty the same as an 141"M sled, exept the longer skid, and narrower stance???

The tracks are different as well, M's have the paddle

Well, I purchased an 05 M7 141 A20. I am really excited about this sled. I am looking for an 09 Xfire 141 Cobra track for Midwest riding. I can't decide if I want to keep the A20 or get a Challenger for out West?

try this

crossfire with a 144 extention running a 1.75 back country

i ran the 136 backcountry and it did really well on the trails on the iron range, i ran the 144 backcountry and it did ok in the mountains. better than the 136 did
really suprized me how good the 136 was on the trails. never got a chance to run the 144 on the same trails but the lug hieght of 1.75 was ok on the 136.

i have a crossover set up now with the ac 1.6 track 136. the sled is set up for midwest riding , only reason i didnt go with the backcountry again was i just wanted to try this one and the backcountry cost me some top end on the trails.. like 80 mph max or so on a 700. i got a mountain sled now so didnt need such a dual purpose set up

my 2 cents.. I have 06 Xfire 700 136 w a 2" track on it. I have over 3K on it in under 2 yrs. I have rode all over AK w it trails and mtns, no problems. I put a MBRP Can and Vforce reeds on it to help the 700 also raised the front limit straps 2'' that help alot. If im not 1st in the pack im pushing who ever is in front of me.. Half is the Machine, Half is the rider. I might not be able to point and shoot up a hill like my buddys on there 153's but i pick me line and figure out where im gonna do a switchback and im good. I am upgrading to a either a 07 m8 141 or 09 xfire 141. bc i want a deeper lug and need a new sled. not sure which one im getting yet. bc w the money i can save on the leftover 08 i can dump into performance parts and lighten up the sled. 09 is new and don't like brand new..

Suggestion:
Xfire 136 w 2'' paddle. add-on motor mods. adjustable front limitr or m1000 front limitr straps. clutchs and ice scratchers.
