crossfire 141 in the mountains

How would the Crossfire 141 do in the mountains with a 2.25" powerclaw track? and lower gearing if needed. Anyone ride the older m 141's in the mountains. I bet they'de be a blast to ride.

Crossfires do fine in the mountains. I rode with a 136x2.25 and also a 141 M7. Neither was the highmarker, but they never held us up either. The wide crossfire front end is a disadvantage when sidhilling, but not huge.

For all mountian riding I would gear down. The stock crossfire gears are made for top speed on the flats. You just fight it at high elevation. M8 gears or better yet 54/66 gears would be a good place to start for a crossfire 8.

If you ride with longer tracked sleds, you will have to be more aggressive. Def. recommend gear down as well, stock m7/m8 is 57 I/63 T, belts will live much longer. Its too bad they didnt offer a factory installed powerclaw option. They are a blast though- just make you work a little harder for it.:)

I like riding aggresive. I want something I can jump and drop and whip with alot. I've been a doo guy for years. But with all the new stuff cat has going for them plus we have a dealer right in town it's hard not to switch. Telescoping bars are cool. Those Fox shocks are a huge bonus. All the weight they shed of the m/xf chassis. EFI is nice if I want to put nos on it.

Are the track drivers the same on the crossfire as they are on the M? Tunnel clearance for snow evacuation with the 2.25" track is my concern.

Will a M seat fit on a crossfire? I hate the crossfire seats.

What are some good mods for these 800's?

Anyone ride the 1000 and like it? I haven't heard much good about them.

I ride a 06 M7 141. A20 track. One of my friends put a 141 on a 07 crossfire. HE had to put a big wheel kit in rear ,anti stab wheels in front, and trimmed track nubs down on DD side of track. I dont know if the attack angle of the skid is different on the 09 . I do know they put two holes in the drop brackets for the skid to fit the bigger paddel. By the way I love my short track, filick it flop it turn it on a dime and you don't need a 40ft jump to get the track off the groud.

I have been running my 06 X-Fire 144, close enough to a 141 for 2yrs now and it does great. 2" camolpast, 8" wheels, shift assist, 36 helix, fuel reducer. It will out climb a stock Nytro 153. It not going to highmark, but it will do everything else. Plus its easier to turn in the trees than the longer ones. If you put a 2.25 paddle it should be that much better. Good luck with your decision.

same here i ride a 06 xfire with a 144x2 camo challenger and you aren't going to highmark anyone but you will do everything else really well. i love how easy it is to turnover in the trees. i would say that i basically built the sled that cat waited 3 years to build with the new xfire. IMO its the perfect freeride sled.

If you are looking at a 09 they are alot closer to a M then earlier years. Sno-pro get the M series rear suspension. They all now come with M anti-ratchet drivers. As for the seat they look worse IMO but they do sit higher ten teh M seat. For my next sled I will probably consider a CF. But If I bought one i woudl switch out the front end for teh narrower front end. As for lug height you can go as big as a M and I know they will take a 2.5" lug no problem.

I'm sure it will be wicked. I hate that crossfire seat. I'll try and find some different skis as well. To bad the M seat won't fit on the Crossfire. Or will It? I could try and mod the M seat maybe. Hmmmm. got me thinking. I know the gas tanks are a bit different. Did you guys change the gearing for the deeper lug track and steep climbs? Should I get the 800 or the 1000. I heard the 1000's feel really heavy compared to the 8's

I got my CF1000 out for the first legit ride this weekend, it still has the cobra track on it (Powclaw is in the shop waiting for more snow) but the gearing feels great at 11,5-12,5k where we rode yesterday. the front end was in the air the whole day, it was a BLAST to ride, way more fun than any modded M I've ridden (turbos aside). I don't have much done yet, just TI bolts, Y & intake, bunch of weight removed, stock clutching.

I was VERY suprised how well it climbed. I think the ability of the 141 to spin easier makes up for the gearing being a bit higher.

Btw, in the shorter sled the front didn't seem as heavy (and it's still heavier than my M1k was), the ability of the sled to transfer easier on the 141 made it feel lighter.
The wide front has got to go, 43" stance is a pain for sidehilling like nubulin said.

After a good couple days riding, I'm looking forward to tossing on the rest of the parts, should be a blast with the track, the rest of the motor work, the supreme clutch, and the narrower/lighter front end.

whoo hoo!!! It's gonna be fun season!

btw, here's my 141:

Come on cat guys. Convince me to buy a cat instead of doo. I need all encouragement I could get.

There has to be more guys riding m7 141's in the steep and deep that can let me know how they work.

I definitely think you should switch. One reason being that you have a great dealer right in town. I just picked up my 09 M8 from there last week and they have by far the best service of any dealer I have ever went to. That was one of the reasons I switched back to cat, I have yet to find a decent doo dealer in the province!

My brother rides a 2006 M7 141 and he loves it. He is the most aggressive rider in our group, and he never had any problems riding with the longer tracks. Seeing what that little 141 would do is what made me buy a M7.

Re-gearing diamond drive?

I ride a 06 X-fire 700. What is the cost of regearing to a lower ratio? Also, is it a difficult procedure?

$200 for the gears unless you can find someone who has takeoffs (probably not too likely) and not too tough a job, probably about 1.5-2 hrs.

Yes and no. The 09 141" crossfire is a 3.0 pitch like the M series.
The older 06-08 136" crossfires are the 2.52 pitch.
Clearance is not an issue. I ride with a 136 2.25 and he is fine.

The crossfire tank is different. I am pretty sure most seats will "fit". Hopefully a crossfire owner will chime in here.

The 1000 crossfire makes a better trail sled than deep snow. 141 is not a lot of track for the 1000. A trencher for sure.... The motor rules though!

It sounds like you should just get an M and adapt to the 153 track. A lot of $$/dicking around to make what you are looking for.

btw Kaleb, killer sled!!!!!!!!!

I've had an 07 and 08 xf800's....my last 08 has Ollies rail ext and 2" challenger for the extended track. Love it!! I agree, had kinda modded the sled I 'wanted' to build and low and behold, looks like cat comes out with it in 09 in the new crossfires! LOL

I"ve got a 09 M8, so I'm excited to see how it rides different tham my 08 xf800. I took the front sway bar off my xf and narrowed the ski stance as much as I could. I love the sled!!

Seats- off the showroom floor the m and crossfire seats are different this is because the tanks are a bit different- as you stated, however Boss only makes one seat for bolth models

8 or 1000- get the 8 if you do more jumping, rippin, freeriding, drops ect.. Get the 1000 if you do more climbing. After riding one, I wouldnt give up my 8 for a 1000, really noticed the weight difference when throwing about, we dont get in highmarking contests though.

Gearing down is def. recommended, stock would work, but less responsive in the mtns. with belt temps higher and life shorter- I've actually thought about going lower on my gears.

As for tracks, as said by others tunnel clearance not an issue, 09 has M 3" pitch drivers. You need to get an 07 challenger, attack 20, or a powerclaw, the 05/06 attack 20 or challenger would have to be cut for gearcase clearance.

ski stance- many like the narrower for sidehilling and boondocking, but the 43" Xfire will be plusher and soak up the big hits better. no issues sidehilling 4 me, little more work in the trees though. Slp powder pro skis work well, most aftermarket skis with more aggressive keel should be better than stock.

As for mods lighter is better esp. when logging air miles, nothing new there. 09 not as light as XP, but much lighter than previous yrs. which weren't heavy either. if you are at altitude over (3000ft.) the slp pipe setup works well. Use the search function on here will get you lots of good ideas.

They fly really well, and are the most stable, predictable chassis out there in my opinion. You'll love it!:beer;:beer; Now get busy, pick up your sled and start building an airial freerider!:D

I'll have to post up some pics later in the season (after there is white stuff on the ground!) to respond to that comment! I've had everything from 136-156, and chose the 141 very specifically for what I wanted, I've seen 141 M8's kill it in deep stuff, so I figured that if I took 50-60+ lbs off the 141 1000 it'd do just fine.

After a weekend of riding & climbing a 1200 foot climb (yeah, singular, there was only one decent face up there), I feel the 141 is WAY more fun than my 153 or 156 ever was!!!!!!

but yeah, in deep, deep snow I expect it to trench a bit. I still doubt I'll have trouble keeping up to a stock 1000 in any conditions, we'll see about that!
