Gear down 850 RMK

Okay that all makes sense then! I've got SRP clutching in my 850 and that was a big improvement over stock. A gear down sounds like the next step!

What is the kit from TKI you are using for your NA's?

https://tkicnc.com/product/2016-2019-polaris-axys-2-6-belt-drive/ is all I can find and lowest gear is 26T. The drop down only goes down to 26T but product specs says 25T is lowest, so maybe just an error on the website.
You are running 25/63 from TKI?
Yes, 25/63. If you can't find it on their web site just call Tom and he will set you up. I use the same gearing for my turbo too.
 
Maybe im way off here but is it not better to clutch around the lower gearing? Seems like the new tracks dont like more than 70 mph so why gear them up past that? Different weight profile/primary spring and a good secondary setup seems like a better idea. Or is it easier to throw on a couple gears and a belt to compliment the stock clutching?
You are right. But it is less about the track and more about the primary clutch. The stock gearing would allow the sled to spin the track to around 80 mph at full shift out. As you say you never will run that speed. Your clutch belt rarely climbs the primary sheaves more than 2/3 up. And most of tree riding the belt will be in the lower half of the sheave. In this position the belt has much less contact area with the sheave so it heats up due to slippage. Ideally you want to run the belt higher at the same speed and this gains transmission efficiency. Additionally, at clutch engagement it is always better to start in a lower gear, especially when the sled is stuck and the track is full of snow or if you are trying to climb up a steep ramp on to a truck deck. These are the times you have probably smelled your belt burning. I believe Curts gear up is not good for mountain riding. If you see any gains with it I assure you that your clutching was way off to start with. e.g. over-revving and you will load it more.
 
Im running the kurts 3267 gear kit along with their clutching for my elevation and love it. No issues and runs better than when it was stock
