crate engine and getting coolant to circulate

I bought a 900 efi crate engine and put it in the sled and cant get the air out of it. The water pump would be in it ... would it not ? I have had the front of the sled a foot off the ground idling and I still gant get it to circulate. Any thing I am missing ?
 
Yes, the water pump would be in a crate motor. The 900 should purge very easily. Fill your reservoir up with coolant and let it sit for 5 minutes or so and it should burp. Refill it and repeat a couple times. Start the engine and let it run until the cylinders are warm to the touch, then shut it down and check the coolant again. Then start it back up and you should be able to feel the coolant hoses or the heat exchangers start to warm up within 1 or 2 minutes to ensure that the pump is working correctly.
 
I've gotten so I drill a 1/8" hole in the thermostate plate opposite the hole thats already in it. Maybe just a coincidence but it seems like they "burp" out better and easier. I also push the tail to the ground and bounce it some while keeping the front elevated.

I remove the cap from the thermostat and fill the system as much as I can with the thermostat out, then put it together and it usually only takes a couple burp sessions to get the air out. I do this along with the other ideas already mentioned.
 
loosen the clamp on the top hose, slide a screwdriver between the hose and the thermostat housing, dump antifreeze in and massage the other hoses with the sled nose high. The screwdriver opens a place at the very top for the air to go out. works every time.
