Crashed my Hawk this weekend

id replace that so there isnt any binding in the forks under compression. then triple check EVERYTHING from the rear fender forward for any other damage that may have gotten overlooked..

6061-T6 Aluminum.
Freshly welded it's not "T6" anymore. It would need a thermal treatment then an artificial aging process to get back to the T6 state (where it has the max strength). Or about a year or so left on the shelf would do too.

I think the fix will hold.

Absolutely not !
Welded aluminum will get back to its T6 state after a while that's the only thing I meant there ! On the other hand, put it under "hi load" (load versus thickness of material let's say it that way) and make it work for years and it WILL fatigue. Best example is a light (thinwall) XC aluminum bike frame. It's got a "life" where it will be stiffer. After 3-4 season, it will flex a lot more if you pry on the bottom bracket. You may never break it or it may never fatigue if you don't reach "loads high enough" but if you do, you won't have the feeling you are looking for from an Aluminum XC bike frame. Hi Strength Steel or Titanium is a way better choice for extended lifetime on a bike frame.

All of that to say that that I was questionning myself the other day about all these frames bending and I don't know if we tend to see more of them letting go on impacts or it's just a period of bad luck, but that might be an explanation right there...

last time i talked to Roo, he said that he got the last PTO side frame that ADB had. hope no one else bends there frame. at this point, i think everyone should get the frame reinforceing kit. or we need to start making our own frames now!

It's just a matter of time before someone does it with an updated geometry... :face-icon-small-hap
