cracked cylinder skirt 2009 d8 ?

pulled my topend to install pms fix kit and found big crack in mag side cylinder skirt-sled only has 1200 easy miles plus 2010 updates-looking for sugestions to replace cylinder with new-or reman cylinder-what companys do you recomend ? thanks

Cylinder

Most any replater can fix it. Millenium, Lancourt, etc. At the same time they can tighten up the clearance when they replate. Check with PMS and see what clearance they recommend.

Send it to Indy Dan and get his Long Rod conversion, the real fix. All others are just bandaids, IMO

Ive got an indy dan in my pro. he does great work but My pms "fix" has gone 1900 miles and things still look good. Not too bad for a bandaid"!

I would just be happy that skirt didnt drop and blow through your case! You got away pretty lucky IMO! good luck with the rebuild, buddys 700 is on its way back from indydan!

I just did an exchange from millennium technologies nice people and easy to do business with, also got all my other rebuild stuff from them as well, like pistons, gaskets, ect. http://www.mt-llc.com/cylinder.php I think I paid about $400 for both after a core refund.

Yep X2. When I did my "Fix" I didn't even bother with my "lightly scuffed" (ya right) cylinders. I sent them to millennium. Your new cylinders will have better tolerance than they did from Polaris and you can rest assured there wil be no underlying quality issues.

**NOTE- we did a "Fix" in my friends sled right after mine last year. His cylinders looked real good. Clearances and bores were all checked and were suprisingly good. His engine broke a cylinder skirt a couple weeks ago after a season on the kit, it took everything out. It's a complete loss. It's almost without doubt that those "really nice" looking cylinders had a hairline crack from the old pistons rattling around and we could not see it even under close inspection.

In other words, no matter what, either have your cylinders reworked or inspected by a qualified individual that can find stress cracks that the eye can not.

Oh and by the way, the Millennium Exchange program can have your new jugs on the way to you the same day you order or when your's arrive. The stock many on the shelf and probably have yours ready to go.
That's what I did and I only had to wait a couple days and my engine was going back together.
