Crack in LH, lower bulkhead bracket

See attached pics.

So, I see its a $44 part, no biggy...but it requires adhesive. $190?! kit?

How do you remove the part from the adhesive?

How do you clean the adhesive?

Ugh, adhesive...


Oh yeah, has anyone else seen this part crack? Reason for it? Side effects?

I just did the right side.

I used a mapp gas torch, and multiple flat head Screw drivers as wedges, just heat while your lightly prying at first, you will see when it starts to un glue itself. Just wedge as you go and keep heating.

Then to clean all the old adhesive off, I used heat and a razor blade gasket scraper.... Gotta have the heat to get it off!!
 
Use the search option and find mountainhorse's thread on the adhesive.
 
Also any Napa or other Autobody places can get or stocks the Fusor line of adhesives from Lords. Essentially the same stuff just marketed to repair shops instead of the OEM's. There is a thread (sticky) about it in the PRO section (may have got moved to the Tech Info. thread). Should be under $100 including the gun.
 
Some people around here are using car windshield glue. Easy to get and cheaper. No issues yet as ive heard.

I'm not sure what they use for windshields on that side of the pond, but here the most common is a single part polyurethane adhesive / caulk. IMO That stuff is way too flexible for it to be of any real benefit structurally, you're counting on the fasteners at that point to maintain the structural rigidity. You now have a point load at each fastener, rather than having one cohesive unit. With the point load at each fastener, your bulkhead is much more likely to crack around the fasteners as it flexs at every joint. FWIW

IMO it's not much better than RTV Silicone gasket maker.

That said, it is your sled, do what you want.

Was thinking the same thing. Glad you said it. The lord adhesive is hard as F@&$ when dry. Windshield adhesive is flexible.
Wouldn't work worth a chit!
Hell I've heard of guys using no adhesive on reassembly!! Crazy!!
 
Don't know what type or brand, but was looking at sled with a replaced gearcase yesterday, that used this stuff. The dried residue around it was hard as rock, nothing near what you are describing. Felt much like the lord adhesive.

Will try find out what brand and type it was.
