Just put my YZ450F up on craigslist. Going to get an EFI YZF or 500. Leaning to the 500. I ride aggresively

i know a few guys that set up kx 500's last year, rode them and few times, and went back to fi 450 mx bikes. i know some guys love the big 2t's, but i think if you want something that runs consistently well all the time and you dont have to tinker with a fi 450 is hard to beat. the gytr cam and piston makes big power on the newer yz's, ive got a buddy that rode one last season (a '15) and that thing ripped.

I love my CR500, it runs consistently and rips hard, its easy to work on and cheap to repair. If I were to go back to a 4T it would be a Yamaha as they seem to be basically bullet proof. We have grenaded quite a few KTMs now in our group, usually failed con rods in several different models of bike, I love the KTM bikes in the summer but I personally don't have much confidence in running one on the snow long term where as with a Yamaha IMO you can't kill them.

14'-15' YZ's with high come piston and cams is the hardest running "stock" bike Anyone local to me seems to have setup. Even bone stock they rail, slip on and the few gytr goodies and they last forever. I bleed blue though. Put a lot of hard hours on high mile YZ's and they just keep ticking.

I've never had a problem with 2ts, my cr250 ran up to 10k feet from sea level. Maybe we are lucky in WA with the temps hardly dropping below 20F. Have a friend with a 90CR500 in an 07 KTM 250SX host he will trade for my 07 YZ450F..

that sounds like a good trade, might as well give it a shot! i had an 07 cr250 and it ran good in the pnw and high up in montana, with just a few turns of the air screw. seems like the big bore 2t's are a little more finicky though, but im sure something you could work out. :face-icon-small-hap

for that trade, hard to say no to! That being said, id be curious why he wants to. I mean an 07 that has been ridden as a snowbike and I presume the dirt is worth maybe 3k?

I am always curious why people are trading away from what seems like "ideal" setups. Tends to be because they don't work good. I never want to sell or trade my stuff when it works good, only when it doesn't.

Yeah, usually see that as well, getting rid of stuff there is always something they don't like or htey would keep it.

I'm almost done rebuilding an '88 cr500 motor. Lot of work and money, so just one thing to keep in mind with the trade, once you get it apart there could be a lot worn out in there.

I get rid of my bikes and setups because I like new stuff, not because there is anything wrong with them. I'd have any of my 450 race setups I had in the past again... they all work great.

Speaking to this, I still have my 13 KTM 450SXF and 15 LT for sale :)

But your not trading for less valuable stuff. When someone is actively seeking out a trade of lesser value... Something is up. Kinda like when someone is trying to sell something way below market value. kinda a red flag.

That is a sick yz you got there! I have been riding the cr 500 i bought to turn into a snowbike and it has totally renewed my love for dirtbiking. I cant believe they quit making these things. I'm Mostly riding in sand/soft conditions but what a hoot! I put new graphics on it and it's even faster!

I think an IMS 3.1. Wish I could afford to keep the YZF.. Already have a 13 Husaberg FE250 for Dualsport in the shop though, easier to single track than the yzf
